Many arrive in Brazil in situations of extreme vulnerability, without financial resources, housing, immediate access to essential services, and with significant mental health consequences for directly affected individuals. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Brazil has been implementing a project to support the Brazilian government in ensuring that forcibly returned Brazilian citizens are received with dignity, that their human rights are respected, and that they receive support to overcome vulnerabilities and reintegrate into society.ย  ย  Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Protection Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination, implementation and monitoring of protection related projects and initiatives, including but not limited to: trafficking in persons, migrant smuggling, gender-based violence, child protection, forcibly return and reintegration, regularization, border governance, legal identity, protection against sexual exploitation and abuse, and protection in humanitarian settings.

Oversees the identification of the protection needs of forcibly returned in the designated area, and timely referral to protection services. Contribute to the coordination, implementation and monitoring of administrative, financial, and operational of protection programming responses in the forcibly returned project (Gender Based Violence, Child Protection, Trafficking in persons, Mental health and psychosocial support) in in accordance with the IOM protection strategy and priorities. Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator, verify that activities are conducted in line with donor requirements and project documents, and that reporting requirements are produced in a timely and to high quality. Follow up on all administrative matters related to Protection activities; support budget monitoring; ensure timely procurement of goods and adequate use of resources Promote protection cross-cutting issue (including GBV, PSEA) are integrated across all protection training models, tools and reporting. Work with cluster/thematic working groups, as well with other IOM programmatic units, to ensure a functioning referrals system and standard operating systems are in place Ensure the field team is mentored and understand knowledge on protection and social protection of vulnerable persons, forcibly returned displaced and that key standards are embedded across protection programming. Provide regular progress updates, prepare success stories, and support the Information Management Officer in needs assessments, gathering and analysing program data, including protection monitoring data and information on migration trends, to inform adaptive programming and produce ad hoc situation analysis/activity reports whenever needed Contribute to promoting accountability to the beneficiaries across the Protection portfolio; contribute to put mechanisms in place to ensure transparent targeting; ensure that beneficiariesโ€™ feedbacks are considered, and complaints are addressed in a timely manner Supervise and support staff assigned to the Protection programmes, including those of consultants and implementing partners in accordance with programme requirements and in line with IOM regulations Communicates with IOM team(s) in the field, facilitates communication and assistance needed for identified vulnerable categories of forcibly returned, thus making sure that their needs are being attended to and addressed in a timely and professional manner. University degree in social sciences, political sciences, psychology law, public policy, health or a related fieldย fromย anย accreditedย academicย institution with a minimum of four (4) years of experience.ย  Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. ย  Experience Working experience in migration context; Knowledge, experience, and skills related to protection mechanisms/available referral pathways for addressing individual needs of identified vulnerable categories Thorough knowledge of IOM mandate and activities carried out in the current migration context in Brazil Experience in liaising with Brazilian Government agencies, national/international institutions, United Nations Agencies and nongovernmental organizations; Understanding of migration law, refugee law, TIP law and other related jurisprudence Experience working with social protection or health system in Brazil;
