About the job
Under the guidance of the Base Manager and the technical support from the DRC coordination unit, the Protection Assistant will participate in the implementation of all DRCโs protection activities in Saharawi refugee camps to strengthen the protective environment of refugees.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Program
Contribute to the planning and implementation of protection activities in the Saharawi refugee camps. In collaboration with the Base Manager, contribute to the establishment/rehabilitation and equipment of sport infrastructure and playrooms in youth centers and/or schools Conduct community consultations with relevant stakeholders, including MoE staff, local and regional authorities, teachers, and sport facilitators, to guide decisions about the programme design Conduct child advisory sessions about the programme design to ensure child participation in line with child safeguarding standards Support the capacity building programme of stakeholders, in terms of facilitation of discussions about stakeholder capacity assessment, the selection of participants, the logistical or administrative arrangements, and follow-up Liaise with local authorities and the youth-led committees, and the young volunteers to support and oversee the coordination, design, and organization of sports events and community awareness-raising campaigns Ensure that relevant program tools, forms, and SOPs, and the applicable professional standards related to protection and humanitarian interventions are adhered to. In coordination with the Base Manager and the technical guidance from the Protection Manager/Protection Specialist, use solid participatory approaches with attention to age, gender, diversity, and vulnerability criteria, to facilitate meaningful dialogues with the Saharawi refugee community. Contribute to the regular development of protection reports and products, including monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/ad hoc reports as requested Adhere to DRC Child Safeguarding Policy and Safeguarding Policy Framework
Representation and Coordination
In coordination with the Base Manager, represent DRC to a range of stakeholders, including individual beneficiaries and community groups, humanitarian agencies, service providers, local authorities, etc. Coordinate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders of the project, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, local and regional authorities of refugee camps, etc. To this end, ensure professional standards and transparent communication to build trust and collaboration with concerned stakeholders.Reporting
Collaborate with the MEAL teams in carrying out monitoring, evaluation, and feedback activities within the target areas. Ensure proper use of tools and online platforms provided for effective reporting and information management as relevant.
Operations support
Support the coordination of programme activities as they relate to logistics, administration, finances, or security, as relevant, in coordination with the relevant departments. Ensure the compliance of staff with the relevant internal policies and directives.
As well as any other duties as may be assigned by the line manager, relevant to the achievement of protection objectives.
About you
To be Successful in this role we expect you to have at least 1-2 years of professional experience in the field of humanitarian interventions, social work, case management, human rights, or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.
