The Protection Assistant (Safe Space Manager) will manage daily operations of the Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) in Beletweyne, overseeing staff, services, and partner coordination. The role ensures a survivor-centered, confidential environment while supporting DRCโs protection and GBV objectives through quality programming, capacity-building, and adherence to DRC and donor policies.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Management of Safe Space Activities Oversee daily operations of the WGSS, ensuring a safe, confidential, and welcoming environment. Coordinate and facilitate structured activities (e.g., life skills, psychosocial support, GBV awareness). Ensure policies on safeguarding, confidentiality, and code of conduct are followed. Maintain supplies and materials for WGSS activities through timely procurement and monitoring. GBV Case Management Supervision Supervise case workers and ensure survivor-centered case management. Oversee case documentation, referrals, and data protection (GBVIMS compliance). Support complex case discussions and facilitate case review meetings. Staff Supervision and Capacity Building Supervise and mentor WGSS personnel including case workers, facilitators, and support staff. Conduct regular team meetings, provide feedback, and ensure staff well-being. Coordination and Community Engagement Represent DRC at local coordination platforms and update referral pathways regularly. Facilitate community feedback and improve services based on needs and trends. Liaise with community leaders and partners to promote WGSS acceptance and service uptake. Monitoring, Reporting and Accountability Submit timely reports, success stories, and data for M&E purposes. Work with MEAL teams on assessments, GBVIMS data, and trend analysis. Ensure compliance with donor and organizational standards, including safe programming. Integration and Emergency Response Collaborate with other DRC sectors (WASH, CCCM, ECREC) to ensure integrated protection responses. Participate in rapid assessments and emergency response planning. Support risk monitoring and contribute to adaptive programming. Other Duties Ensure WGSS safety and report security concerns. Represent WGSS in coordination forums and trainings. Adhere to DRCโs code of conduct and safeguarding principles. Perform any other duties assigned by the line or technical manager.About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have:
Required
Minimum 3 years of practical experience working with protection programming for an INGO or similar organization University Degree in social science, international development, economics, or political science Strong experience of supporting humanitarian preparedness, emergency response and recovery Knowledge of market-based programming and market analysis tools Field experience in the Area Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian protection services and confidentiality of beneficiary data Excellent skills in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Fluency in English Fluency in Somali

Contract length: 5 months with the possibility of an extension.

Reporting to: Protection Team Leader
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Councilโs Terms of Employment for
employees on national contract.
