The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is seeking a skilled professional to join its dynamic team in Central Asia as a Project Coordinator.

The Project Coordinator will play a key role in coordinating the โ€œFood Frontiers and Securityโ€ Science Program and will mainly work for Area of Work (AoW) 1 and 2. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of a key component of the โ€œBlue Peace Central Asia (BPCA) 2.0โ€ project in liaison with the dedicated Project Coordinator for the BPCA project. The successful candidate will foster an enabling environment among project team members, implementation partners, and key stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of project outputs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities Related to โ€œFood Frontiers and Securityโ€ Science Program,

Contribute to preparing accurate and timely reports at the discretion of the Project Leads to support informed decision making and ensure consistency across information presented to stakeholders. Liaise with internal and external counterparts to facilitate collaboration, monitor project progress, and identify potential risks to program delivery. Assist to identify, develop, and manage potential partnerships that support collaboration and enhance program implementation. Organize & attend key project meetings & regular virtual and in-person meetings with the project team, HQ staff and implementing partners for effective coordination and planning. Document and follow up on action items and decisions from meetings. Responsible for overseeing all financial, operational, logistical, procurement, and accounting processes of the project, including managing CGIAR requirements specified by the CGIAR Program Management Unit (PMU). Work closely with IWMIโ€™s Project Lead (PL) and Co-Project Leads for AoW1 & AoW2 (under the science program) to ensure adherence to agreed timelines by creating & maintaining a project calendar, tracking project outputs, progress updates, and overall project milestones. Maintain project databases, including contacts, interns, consultants, events, and projects to manage the allocated resources effectively. Prepare accurate and timely reports under the guidance of the Project lead, to support informed decision-making and ensure consistency in information presented to stakeholders. Assess project risks and issues, proposing solutions where applicable. Coordinate data gathering and monitoring systems to uphold high quality standards. Ensure timely and appropriate responses to inquiries and correspondence directed to the Project Leader.

Responsibilities Related to โ€œBlue Peace Central Asia (BPCA) 2.0โ€ project,

Provide oversight and guidance for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Objective 3 strategies and activities, ensuring effective capacity development and education among key water-environment stakeholders. Coordinate with other Objective Leads to strengthen institutional capacity and integrate basin planning and demonstration activities into capacity development efforts Ensure that all activities are aligned with overarching strategic goals and effectively coordinate and implement agreed activities as outlined in annual workplans. Engage and support Higher Education Institutions in implementing education programs as per the project objectives. Facilitate youth engagement in water management and women's empowerment initiatives within the Central Asian water sector, with sub-leadership by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC). Create and maintain a sustainable water cooperation and hydro diplomacy knowledge repository and database. Identify short-term technical assistance needs and manage consultants as required, including the development of Terms of Reference (ToRs). Manage Blue Peace Central Asia 2.0 resources responsibly while ensuring compliance with all policies. Professionally represent Blue Peace Central Asia 2.0 and foster collaboration with key partners, including government agencies, the private sector, and civil society, in accordance with Blue Peace Central Asia 2.0 protocols.

Masterโ€™s degree in environmental science, climate change, policy, or another scientific discipline relevant to water resources across multiple sectors. Minimum of 7 years of work experience in integrated water resource management (IWRM), transboundary water cooperation, or water and environment programs, including at least 4 years of demonstrated experience in project coordination and management processes with international organizations or other development partners.

Desirable,

Prior experience in water management or climate change within international organizations. Experience preparing scientific information and papers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Essential,

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and within set timelines. Excellent communication skills, particularly in preparing correspondence and briefings. Familiarity with social media and the ability to use it effectively to promote inter-office communication and information sharing. Ability to effectively prioritize, plan, organize, implement, and monitor work activities with minimal supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Proven experience in using project management software. Demonstrated skills in facilitation methods that encourage participatory decision-making and shared visions with stakeholders. High proficiency in MS Office and other relevant computer software. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally. This is a nationally recruited position and only Tajik nationals will be considered. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
