5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Applications are welcome from internal and external candidates. For all IOM vacancies, applications from qualified and eligible first-tier candidates are considered before those of qualified and eligible second-tier candidates in the selection process. For the purpose of this vacancy, internal candidates are considered first-tier candidates.
Context

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and a key part of the United Nations system. With 175 member states and operations in over 170 countries, IOM is committed to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. IOM works closely with governments and partners to support migrants, respond to migration challenges, and strengthen the resilience of communities on the move. Guided by its Constitution, which recognizes the link between migration and development, IOM focuses on saving lives and protecting people on the move, driving solutions to displacement, and facilitating pathways for safe, regular, and orderly migration.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Uzbekistan and the direct supervision of the Head of Unit on Migration Health and Migration, Environment and Climate Change (MECC), the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the implementation of IOMโ€™s programme activities related to climate change, migration, and health in Uzbekistan.

The successful candidate will assist in the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of initiatives addressing the intersection of migration, health, and climate change, in alignment with national priorities and donor requirements. This includes contributing to projects funded by the Government of Sweden, the IOM Development Fund (IOMDF), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and other international partners. Key thematic areas include climate change adaptation, migration health, womenโ€™s empowerment in climate-affected communities, cross-border health security, and the development and implementation of national policies.

The incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring the effective delivery of project activities, fostering collaboration with stakeholders, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Through this work, the incumbent will contribute to IOMโ€™s broader efforts to enhance climate resilience and strengthen health systems for migrants and vulnerable populations in Uzbekistan.
