IOM in The Netherlands has been the main implementer of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) activities since 1992. Voluntary return is one of the main pillars of the Dutch return policy, with voluntary return taking precedence over forced returns.
During the past decades IOM has evolved to cover the full range of AVRR support: 1) pre-departure support including assistance tailored to the needs of migrants in situation of vulnerability, facilitating travel documentation; 2) travel assistance; and 3) post arrival and reintegration. IOM has developed more specialised activities offering specific support to migrants in a situation of vulnerability including medical cases, victims of trafficking and unaccompanied migrant children
