JOB PURPOSE
The Food Security Data Analyst Consultant will assist the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (Food Security and Nutrition Information System) and the Vulnerability, Analysis and Mapping (VAM)/Nutrition Officer, under the overall supervision of the Nutrition and HIV Activity Manager, with technical support from the VAM Team Leader and the Head of Research, Assessments and Monitoring (RAM). As part of National Food Security and Nutrition Information System (SNISAN, as abbreviated in Portuguese) set up, the incumbent will support the development of analytical content for the descriptive and analytical models and data related to food security and will be responsible for designing the layout and developing the first SNISAN bulletin.
BACKGROUND
WFP is currently providing technical and financial assistance to the Government for the establishment and operationalization of a National Food Security and Nutrition Information System (SNISAN, as abbreviated in Portuguese) under the leadership of the Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition (SETSAN).
Critical to the achievement of these objectives is the collation, organization, interpretation and dissemination of food security and nutrition data in Mozambique. To this end, various descriptive and analytical models are being developed, and data from secondary sources are being organized and data from secondary sources being currently organized for data visualization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
The consultant will focus on achievement of the following specific tasks:
Refine the descriptive model for the analysis of food insecurity in Mozambique taking into consideration both chronic and acute food insecurity.
Conduct data analysis on specific indicators and develop content to visualize the status and the evolution of the food security situation in Mozambique based on the descriptive model of food insecurity, including the descriptive analysis.
Prepare the first bulletin on food security and nutrition in Mozambique as a key product of SNISAN including supporting the definition of its layout and automating information and visual analysis for the subsequent bulletins.
Propose and contribute to the development of other information management products, such as maps, dashboards, and infographics that could further expand the analysis of the food security situation.
Contribute to the design and revision of the remaining analytical and descriptive models of SNISAN.
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of several statistical tools and methods for food security analysis.
Practical experience in food security analysis and mapping, gained through participation in multiple assessments in Mozambique, including design, data collection, and analysis.
Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of food security vulnerability mapping systems and the Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) for acute and chronic food insecurity analysis, respectively.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Advanced University Degree in Economics, Food Security, Statistics, Data Science, Public Health/Nutrition, Geography or other related field, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training experience.
Experience: At least one (1) years of postgraduate professional experience in food security and nutrition assessment and analysis.
Language: Fluency (Level C) in Portuguese, Intermediate (Level B) in English
