Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Office of the Director (OD) in the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Programme Management Officer reports to a Senior Programme Management Officer. The Division seeks to strengthen international cooperation for achieving social inclusion and the reduction of the gap of inequalities, by fostering effective policy impact and intensified global dialogue on social development issues. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties: โข Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, relating to the preparation of the Second World Summit for Social Development; monitors and analyzes Summit-related programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions. โข Supports preparation of the host-country arrangements for the Summit and related logistics, including Inter-departmental coordination. โข Supports activities related to budget coordination and funding for the Summit and prepares related documents/reports. โข Undertakes or coordinates activities related to outreach and communication in support of the Summit, including assisting with implementation of the communication strategy and plan, contributing to the development of promotional material and supporting organization of advocacy events and initiatives; โข Supports activities related to stakeholder engagement in preparation for the Summit and during the Summit. โข Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies related to the Summit. โข Undertakes survey initiatives to support input to Summit preparations and follow-up; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions. โข Prepares various written outputs, including draft background papers, briefing notes, summaries, etc. to support Summit preparation and follow-up. โข Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings to support Summit preparation, to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents, presentations and summaries; โข Participates in field missions, as required to support the logistical preparations for the Summit, including provision of guidance to government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries. โข Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. โข Performs other duties as required. Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required. Experience with logistical preparation and coordination of large conferences or summit-level intergovernmental meetings in the United Nations or similar international organization is desirable. Experience with the development or implementation of outreach advocacy and communication materials to advance social development objectives is desirable. Experience with stakeholder engagement and coordinating stakeholder activities in the area of social development is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable.
