Work LocationIn-person, Bissau, Guinea-Bissau Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UNDCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator—the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level—support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Coordination Officer, Data and Monitoring and the UNRCO, the intern will undertake the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Act as focal point in the office of the Resident Coordinator for humanitarian response, which will include working with OCHA to update the UNCT’s contingency plans as well as developing with relevant agencies a proposal for integrated national disaster risk and reduction systems. 2. Facilitate the work of UNCT Outcome Groups which are the substantive platforms through which UN agencies coordinate their support to the 3 priority areas of the Strategic Cooperation Framework with the Government (governance institutions and rule of law; economic development and climate action; human capital development). In 2025 outcome groups will be preparing their updated assessments of the situation and priority needs, with a few to propose the priorities for future collaboration with the government, 3. Assist in coordinating the UN agencies’ support to the elaboration of the national development, in particular through decentralized engagement with local governments at the level of 2 regions of the country. The internship is UNPAID and is available for 6-months. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Preferred studies: Enrolled in a bachelor’s (final year) or master’s degree in Social Studies, Development Studies, Political Science, International Relations, or other relevant fields.
