The offices deliver on the programmatic priorities of each country as agreed in their respective Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs) aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and ensure effective and efficient operations with adequate human and financial resources.ย
Specifically, FAO Country Offices:ย
โข ย ย advocate, inform and support policies and investments in the areas of FAOโs mandate.
โข ย ย provide technical assistance and deliver core services.ย
โข ย ย assist and catalyse partnership and resource mobilization activities to support agrifood systems transformation.ย
โข ย ย position FAO as the specialized/authoritative technical agency in food and agriculture and agrifood systems transformation.ย

The FAO in Nepal works to enhance food security and food safety, sustainable agriculture, one health and rural development through technical assistance, policy support, and project implementation. The Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2023-2027 ensures FAOโs work in Nepal is well-coordinated with government strategies, including the Agriculture Development Strategy (ADS) 2015-2035 and Nepalโs Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for climate action.
The position is located in the FAO Country Office in Nepal and plays a critical role in ensuring the coordination and administration of FAO programme and project activities. The Programme Assistant will support the planning and execution of programme activities through coordination, reporting, and operational support. S/he will assist in preparing project documents and reports, managing project data in corporate systems, supporting field missions and workshops, and facilitating communication with stakeholders. By ensuring timely documentation, efficient logistical arrangements, and accurate reporting, the Programme Assistant contributes to the smooth delivery of country-level programme results aligned with the Country Programming Framework and FAOโs Strategic Objectives.
Reporting Lines
The Programme Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Nepal and direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) in Nepal, and in close coordination with the FAO programme team.ย
Technical Focus
Provide needful programmatic and operational support to the FAO country programme/office in Nepal to carry out tasks as envisioned in the Terms of Reference (TOR).
Tasks and responsibilities
The Programme Assistant will be responsible to carry out the following tasks:ย
โข ย ย Assist in the preparation of project proposals/documents, project briefs, project progress/final reports, background papers, sections of reports and studies.ย
โข ย ย Collect and compile data on programme/ project activities to support reporting on programme/ project delivery.ย
โข ย ย Process, format and proof-read reports, documents, publications, and correspondence related to the work of the Country office from draft texts. ย
โข ย ย Review and direct correspondence, calls and queries to appropriate contacts; provide for background information; respond to routine enquiries.ย
โข ย ย Assist in the organization of policy dialogues, workshops and consultation meetings and preparation for project periodic reviews, field monitoring and supervision missions in close consultation with programme team, government counterparts and other relevant stakeholders.ย
โข ย ย Make arrangements for meetings, seminars and events: implement logistics, prepare meeting minutes, correspondences, compile and distribute documents, support in administrative arrangements.ย
โข ย ย Enter, select, analyse, and summarize data from various sources, including FAO corporate systems, such as COIN (Country Office Information System), FPMIS (Field Programme Management Information System), Global Resource Management System (GRMS), country databases, etc to support programme operations.ย
โข ย ย Maintain log, file and update records in prescribed format for subsequent use.ย
โข ย ย Participate in project monitoring by maintaining current registers and controlling tools on the status of projects at various stages; review inputs, expenditures, and time frames according to work plans; make necessary abstracts and computations; detect inconsistencies. ย
โข ย ย Assist in the preparation and submission of periodic and ad hoc project and country office reports. ย
โข ย ย Prepare background material, working papers and tables for briefings, review sessions and meetings. ย
โข ย ย Prepare correspondence to verify data, answer queries, and obtain additional information on transactions and operational matters, as required. ย
โข ย ย Maintain a filing system of technical and project documents and correspondence.ย
โข ย ย Carry out other specific operational tasks for programme/ project implementation as requested. ย
โข ย ย Provide routine secretariat support to the AFAOR (Programme), including managing schedules, following up on delegated actions, and assisting in document preparation.
โข ย ย Assist the AFAOR (Programme) with coordination tasks and communication with internal and external stakeholders, as requested.
โข ย ย Perform other related duties as required

Minimum Requirements ย
ย ย
โข ย ย Bachelorโs degree in Business Management, Administration, Business studies, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Economics, International relation/Development, or related field.
โข ย ย At least 3 years of professional experience in supporting programme, project operations preferably with UN Agencies, I/NGOs or donor funded government projects.ย
โข ย ย Working knowledge of English and Nepali.
