Your role
ECMWF is currently seeking a Press Officer (maternity leave cover) for a period of 6 months starting as soon as possible to support the Communications Section in raising the profile of ECMWF and its various programmes, services, grant and initiatives in the media; To manage and deliver the press programmes for the institute and play an active role in issues and crisis management. This temporary maternity cover position can be located at any of the three ECMWF Duty Station locations in Reading, UK, Bonn, Germany or Bologna, Italy.
The team
The Communications Section, part of the Office of the Director General, has an important role to play in helping the Centre to achieve its strategic objectives. Its remit covers both internal and external communications. The Communications Section leads on news and media, running effective events, stakeholder engagement, publishing, communicating with ECMWF’s own diverse workforce, and on all aspects of digital communication.

Main duties and key responsibilities
Working with the Head of Strategic Communications and Other team leaders, plan deliver and evaluate press and social media campaigns. Manage the delivery of different elements of the campaign and work undertaken by colleagues in relation to our campaigns and activities.Formulate social media post for ECMWF accounts in line with media relations ambitions.Ensure that we can always respond swiftly to media requests for info/interviews/visits/images etc and coordinate a rota of press office cover.Prepare briefings for interviews, holding statements for a wide range of interactions with the media with a view to maximise the time of our spokespeople and ensure swift engagement with journalists.Work with colleagues to facilitate media events and journalist visits.Monitor and edit third party press releases/case studies about ECMWF and its wide range of activities.Build strong relationships with journalists at all levels so that ECMWF is well positioned.Manage and deliver media events, including press conferences and media open days.Monitor progress against media evaluation metrics and Key Performance Indicators to assess success.Oversee regular reporting through coverage books on media coverage achieved and help enhance the development of the monitoring/evaluation matrix.Liaise with ECMWF various copywriters to prioritise the development of editorial to support media relations;Write press releases and media brief as required;Schedule media training and media coaching for staff and users and provide pre-interview briefings when required.Contribute to team meetings so that everyone is aware of part, present and future activities on the media side.Support the Head of Strategic Comms with comms activities in situations of crisis/issues management as required.Other information
Grade remuneration The successful candidate will be recruited equivalent to the B5 grade, according to the scales of the Co-ordinated Organisations. The position is assigned to the employment category STF-SP as defined in the ECMWF Staff Regulations. As a multi-site organisation, ECMWF has adopted a hybrid working model that allows flexibility to staff to mix office working and teleworking. We allow for remote work 10 days/month away from the office, including up to 80 days/year away from the duty station country (within the area of our member states and co-operating states).
