Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO Country Offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
Reporting Lines
The Photographer will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Sudan, and in close coordination with the communication specialist, the communication officer of the FAO Regional Office, and other relevant HQ technical divisions.
Technical Focus
The photographer will work for all the projects in the country office, undertake missions when requested by various project leaders for taking photos in the field, and related activities.
Tasks and responsibilities
In close collaboration with OCC branches and focal points, the incumbent will:
โข ย ย ย ย Take portraits of FAO field staff, implementing partners, and other stakeholders in action.
โข ย ย ย ย Take high-quality photos capturing field activities like seed loading and truck dispatch operations, farmers' vaccinations of animals, farming activities in the field in line with the specified requests by project managers and the FAO Representative.
โข ย ย ย ย Provide FAO with at least 60 high-quality photographs (a mix of horizontal and vertical would be best, as well as landscape images, portraits, and action shots).
โข ย ย ย ย Provide full detailed captions in English for each photograph, provided as a separate text document, specifying accurately details such as geographical location, name of the person in the photo, time of photo taken, a brief description of the activities represented, the name of the project involved, or other relevant content.
โข ย ย ย ย Capture photographs of people in a respectful and humane way with a primary focus on capturing expressions that show emotion and that are engaging.
โข ย ย ย ย The officer in charge of the photo production should liaise with OCC at the appropriate stages to ensure workflow, quality and files delivered correspond to FAO Photo Library production standards.

โข ย ย ย ย Identify and develop an overall layout that suits the product type.
โข ย ย ย ย Work in consultation with the publication Editor and ensure that the layout fits the intended audience (from a technical, professional and cultural standpoint).
โข ย ย ย ย Submit 3 to 5 design proposals, for the Supervisorโs final approval.
โข ย ย ย ย Perform three rounds of corrections following OCC/PWS and divisional quality checks; rounds of corrections are to be increased should the Consultant overlook corrections.
โข ย ย ย ย Deliver high- and low-resolution files (for print and web) as well as complete design packages (source files) to the Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements ย ย
โข ย ย ย ย University degree in Journalism, Communication, Computer, and related studies or a related field
โข ย ย ย ย At least 1 year of relevant experience in field photographyย
โข ย ย ย ย Working knowledge (Level C) of English; knowledge of Arabic or another FAO official language is an asset
