OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
To ensure that effective WHO country presence is established to implement WHO country cooperation strategies that are aligned with Member Stateโs health priorities, sustainable development agendas and harmonized with the United Nations country teams and partners to improve health outcomes and progress towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.
ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING
The Pharmaceutical Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the WHO Emergency Team Lead. She/he is expected to perform his/her duties and responsibilities with the highest degree of efficiency and sound judgment.
The incumbent coordinates activities in the designated areas but does not have direct supervisory or managerial responsibilities.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Function 1 (incl. expected results)
Carries out basic analyses to evaluate the pharmaceutical needs in the designated area, achieving results such as:
- Support in creation of reports from various sources to alert the hierarchy of any gaps or upcoming needs for medicines, diagnostics and medical supplies and make recommendations on plans to meet these needs.
- Review of medicines and medical supplies requests from Ministry of Health and other partners and prepare appropriate response to the requests.
- Collaboration with the emergency team in forecasting and quantification of contingency planning of essential medicines requirements.
Function 2 (incl. expected results)
Handles pharmaceutical information and data management activities, achieving results such as:
- Preparation of databases of drugs, kits, medical devices and other relevant pharmaceutical information, showing quantities, qualities and gaps.
- Data entry, editing, cleaning up and analysis of data and information related to the beneficiaries and their drug prescriptions.
- Conduct regular Monitoring and Evaluation to WHO supported partners to ensure rational use of supplies and contribute to the donorsโ reports and assurance activities.
Function 3 (incl. expected results)
Coordinates logistical arrangements on procurement, storage and delivery of drugs, medicines and medical equipment, achieving results such as:
- Collaboration with the administrative staff to implement procurement plans for medicines and medical supplies as well as monitoring the implementation, delivery and storage of the procured items.
- Collaboration with the administrative staff to coordinate with the National Regulatory Authority in obtaining the necessary approval for the importation and the use of medicine and medical supplies.
- Technical quality checks of procured materials and supplies to ensure compliance with established standards and applicable policies, practices and procedures for clearance, transportation and storage.
- Provide support in preparation of regular reports on stock position, expiry dates of existing stock and the arrival of new stock (including pipe-line) and recommendation of action in order to ensure good storage and inventory control as per standard guidelines and ensure that no drug expires.
- Maintenance of buffer stock for emergencies, outbreaks, or natural disasters.
- Inventory management within the distribution centres to ensure good patient services through continuous availability of needed drug stocks.
- Collaboration with administrative staff members to facilitate the workflow and increase the efficiency in all services provided.
WORK RELATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS
The Pharmaceutical Coordinator liaises internally with administrative staff in procurement and warehouse management to ensure an efficient workflow of all logistical arrangements for drugs and medical equipment. Externally, the Pharmaceutical Coordinator liaises with Ministry of Health and other partners mainly to react to their requests for medicines and medical supplies but also to alert them of any gaps or upcoming needs for proper inventory management. The Pharmaceutical Coordinator will be working also with partners to arrange for Monitoring and Evaluation requirements as per donorsโ agreements.
IMPACT OF THE FUNCTION
The functions contribute to proper inventory and stock management of drugs to ensure a relentless flow of safe and effective pharmaceutical support to partners.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education Qualifications
First level university degree in Medicine or Pharmacy.
Desirable: Other humanitarian and public health studies.
Professional Experience and knowledge
At least 1 year of experience required at the national level in the area of national drug policy programmes and administration.
Desirable:
- Working experience in humanitarian response including the procedures of obtaining the necessary approval for the importation and the use of medicine and medical supplies.
- Ability to summarize and prepare clear and precise papers and documents.
- Good knowledge of WHO procedures and policies.
Language Skills
Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic language.
Other Skills (e.g. IT)
Proficiency in MS Office.

REMUNERATION
Remuneration comprises an annual base salary (Net of Tax) starting at JOD 30,690.
