Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis internship is located in the Press and External Relations Section of the United Nations Information Service in Geneva. The United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Geneva is the voice of the United Nations Office at Geneva. Through the media and its own news and information products, UNIS keeps the world informed about Genevaโ€™s unique role in multilateralism, diplomacy, and international relations. It also fosters a dialogue with key audiences, especially youth, through a range of outreach activities. UNIS conveys the official position of the United Nations on a wide range of subjects through press conferences and briefings, official statements, interviews, podcasts, social media, and outreach events. It provides both breaking news and in-depth material to international print and audiovisual media and serves the needs of close to 200 correspondents from the worldโ€™s major news agencies and foreign media outlets permanently accredited to the United Nations in Geneva. NB: This internship is unpaid. Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Press Officer in charge of the Graduate Study Programme (GSP), and with the support of other UNIS staff, the Outreach Intern's duties will include the following: โ— Help with planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluating the 64th Graduate Study Programme, which will be held in June-July 2026. Specific tasks will include: preselection and final selection of participants; correspondence with participants, speakers, moderators, and other counterparts; preparing various documents and files in Word, Excel, PDF, Canva, PPT, and Adobe PremierPro; conducting statistical analyses; proposing innovative ways to improve the Programme; analyzing participantsโ€™ feedback, etc; โ— Contribute to the organization and promotion of other outreach events, including the World Press Freedom Day and the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, and regular Cinรฉ-ONU movie screenings and discussions; โ— Contribute to the creation of social media content for @UNGeneva platforms; โ— Take the lead with daily monitoring of Swiss media (in French, German, Italian, and English); โ— Attend biweekly press briefings and draft press briefing summaries; โ— Attend meetings of human rights treaty bodies, the Human Rights Council, and other major events; โ— Draft stories, in English and in French, on events and developments at UN Geneva, to be reviewed, edited, and published on iSeek (the UN Intranet), UN Geneva website, or various other publications; โ— Carry out other tasks as requested by the United Nations Information Service. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). While no prior work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, please list any experience you may have with organizing events and liaising with various counterparts. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please explain how your field of study is related to the work of UN Information Service Geneva. Please list any experiences you may have in the field of communications, particularly with outreach or event organization. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelorโ€™s, Masterโ€™s or PH.D.
