5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

ContextThis task is part of a broader initiative to strengthen the engagement of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in volunteer opportunities across Europe and Central Asia. Through OPD mapping and outreach, we aim to increase visibility, foster partnerships, and ensure meaningful representation of persons with disabilities in volunteerism and decision-making processes. The collected data will contribute to inclusive talent acquisition strategies and support the development of a comprehensive OPD network to enhance long-term collaboration and knowledge-sharing. This initiative aligns with global efforts to advance disability inclusion, ensuring that volunteer opportunities are accessible and representative of diverse communities. The Online Volunteer will work in a collaborative, impact-driven environment, engaging with disability-inclusive development, stakeholder outreach, and international engagement strategies. The assignment is part of the May Initiative and serves as a critical preparatory step for broader advocacy and policy-shaping efforts leading up to the May Initiative. The May Inclusion Initiative is a regional disability inclusion programme led by UNV ROECA, launched in May 2025 to accelerate the engagement of persons with disabilities in UN volunteering and strengthen partnerships with OPDs across Europe and Central Asia as part of a year-long transformation agenda. The assignment contributes to the May Inclusion Initiative 2025, a regional effort to promote disability-inclusive volunteering and strengthen collaboration with OPDs across the UN system in Europe and Central Asia.
