Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.ย 

UN Women Haiti is implementing its Country Strategic Note 2014โ€“2027, which aims to achieve the following results: (i) Legitimate and accountable institutions that guarantee the rule of law, good governance, and respect for human rights; (ii) The population, especially vulnerable and marginalized groups, gains improved access to equitable, inclusive, and high-quality basic social services, with a focus on respect for human rights, gender equality, and the inclusion of persons with disabilities, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the social contract; and (iii) A new inclusive and equitable economic model, fostering new investments, growth, and sustainability, and conducive to the rapid creation of decent jobsโ€”particularly for youth and womenโ€”capable of substantially reducing poverty and inequalities, is formulated, approved, and implementedย 

Reporting to the Deputy representative leading the programme, the Communications Associate supports the formulation and implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies to increase the standing and awareness of UN Women with partners, the media and the public. The Communications Associate adopts a quality- and a client-oriented approach to deliver results.ย ย 

Scope of Work

1.ย Provide coordination support in the development of a coherent CO communications and advocacy strategy:ย 

Provide substantive inputs to the development of the Hiti communication strategy;ย  Provide support to advocacy efforts and campaigns by organizing roundtable discussions, press conferences, and other publicity events, and preparing briefing materials and press releases;ย  Provide guidance and support to programme and other Haiti staff on UN Women corporate communications guidelines and printing norms;ย  ย  Track and monitor print and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform strategy development; andย  Provide inputs to Programme in order to integrate advocacy and communication strategies into programme formulation, as necessary.ย 

2.ย Provide coordination support to the development of Haiti advocacy materials:ย 

Identify storylines and achievements within the Haiti for online and printed publications;ย  ย  Prepare press releases, articles, key messages, and other advocacy materials;ย  Oversee the translation, adaptation, or rewriting of information received for the local context;ย  Manage the publication of materials for final approval; establish and maintain relationships with printers/publishers;ย  ย  Maintain library/ database of reference materials and photos and digital assets, as necessary; andย  Follow guidelines from RO/HQ.ย 

3.ย Provide substantive support in the management of the Haiti social media presence and website:ย 

Identify stories, and develop/review content for the Haiti website hosted at the RO and social media channels;ย  Update the website and social media channels, ensure consistency in branding;ย  Research, compile and produce reports on web statistics on a regular basis and electronic surveys;ย  ย  Maintain files, databases, and systems relevant to the Haiti digital presence, as necessary; andย  Provide support on special web/digital/media projects undertaken by the CO/MCO.ย  ย 

4.ย Provide media relations support to the Haiti head of office:ย 

Serve as a focal point on UN Women activities open to the press, as necessary;ย  ย  Establish and maintain relationships with press in country; maintain and update database of relevant press, as necessary;ย  Respond to request for information and arrange interviews; andย  Draft talking points.ย 

5.ย Facilitate knowledge management and sharing:ย 

Contribute to the identification of best practices and lessons learned;ย  Conduct trainings and workshops on communication practices;ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Provide/ exchange information with HQ and ACRO and Haitiย 

6.ย The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.ย

Minimum Qualificationsย 

Education and Certification

Completion of secondary education is required. ย ย  Bachelorโ€™s degree in communications, public relations or journalism is desirable. ย ย 

Experienceย 

At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in providing support to the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies and related plans is required.ย  Experience in the use of social media and digital communications is required. ย ย  Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems is required. Experience in the use of a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable.ย 

Languagesย 

Fluency in English and French is required.ย  Fluency in Creole is required.ย  Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).ย
