5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNDP has been providing development assistance to the people of Myanmar since the 1950s. UNDP operated under a restricted mandate from 1993 until 2012 implementing the Human Development Initiative programme which provided assistance directly to communities and individuals for improving their lives and livelihoods. In 2013, UNDP began working through two country programmes, and between 2018 and 2020 the focus shifted to direct support to the Myanmar Government. Following the military takeover in 2021, UNDP Myanmar pivoted to directly target the extremely vulnerable by meeting their basic needs and supporting community recovery, through the Community First Programme: 2021-2025. We have and extensive presence with 4 field offices covering 11 states and regions, with offices in Mon State - covering Mon and the southeastern regions including Bago โ€“ and Kachin and Shan states. UNDP also has a field office in Rakhine State and a sub-office in northern Rakhine. UNDP Myanmar works with an extensive network of local CSO, CBO, grassroots partners and community leaders established by UNDP under the Human Development Initiative which started in 1993. These networks remain operational, and UNDP has been able to quickly connect and deliver support through them despite rapid changes in Myanmarโ€™s political and social landscape.

ContextA massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on 28 March with its epicentre near the countryโ€™s second largest city of Mandalay, resulting in widespread loss of life, injury and destruction to homes and infrastructure. While the full extent of the disaster is still emerging, an estimated 15 million people have been affected nationwide. The hardest-hit areas were home to some 1.6 million internally displaced people (IDPs) forced to flee during the past four years of conflict, worsening an already dire humanitarian crisis affecting displaced and local communities. When the earth shook in Myanmar, it wasnโ€™t just buildings that crumbledโ€”it was lives, dreams, and the fragile safety of entire communities. Families are now living in makeshift shelters, children are without schools, and countless people are navigating daily survival with nothing but resilience and hope. But even amid the devastation, their spirit remains unbroken. Communities are coming together, helping one another clear rubble, share food, and protect what little remains. UNDP stands with themโ€”not only to deliver urgent aid, but to help them rise, rebuild, and reclaim their futures. We are calling on the global community, especially those with ties to Myanmar, to join this effort. Every donation is a step toward helping families reclaim their livelihoods and rebuild their homes that shall be stronger and more resilient to withstand the next disaster. Every share is a spark of awareness. And every act of solidarity shows that they are not alone. Letโ€™s channel their strength into action. Together, we can help them rise from the rubble. Through this assignment, we wish to collaborate with an Online Communications Support Volunteer to support in coordinating a larger group of Online Volunteers, and to support awareness raising through the digital campaign to boost the visibility of this global joint effort.
