Climate mobilityโthe movement of people driven by climate-related factors such as extreme weather, sea-level rise, and ecosystem degradationโis central to the International Organization for Migration (IOM)โs mandate to ensure safe, orderly, and dignified migration. It is a growing global challenge, with millions displaced annually and projections of up to 216 million internal climate migrants by 2050. ย
In Viet Nam, IOM has played a pivotal role in supporting the country's migration management and humanitarian response efforts since 1987. In recent years, climate mobility is a critical issue as floods and storms increasingly drive displacement and migration. IOM supports national efforts by integrating human mobility into disaster risk reduction and climate resilience planning, including evacuation infrastructure and relocation strategies.ย
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and direct supervision of the Head of Projects and Partnerships; and, in close coordination with relevant IOM offices in the region, as well as the Regional Migration Environment & Climate Change Specialist, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for implementing various research initiatives and multi-stakeholder consultations to inform policy and programming related to climate mobility as well as to support IOM Viet Namโs efforts in advancing climate mobility portfolio.ย
