GGGI has been functioning as a key development partner for the Government of Guyana (GoG). GGGI in Guyana has supported and implemented development projects since 2018 in the renewable energy and sustainable forest sectors, MRVS, and management support, and has recently expanded its support in climate resilience and adaptation. Guyana has greatly emphasized addressing climate change because of its strategic importance, as reflected in Guyanaโs national strategy, the Low Carbon Development Strategy, 2030 (LCDS 2030), adopted in 2022.
POSITION SUMMARY
The National MRV Officer will support the implementation of MRV-related activities under the program portfolio, contributing to the development of a robust, transparent, and sustainable MRVS aligned with international standards and national development priorities. The National MRV Officer will provide technical and coordination support for implementing MRV components under the GCF Readiness and UK PACT projects, ensuring coherence, quality, and alignment with the national and international MRV framework.
PURPOSE
The Officer is expected to be a professional who is passionate about contributing to GGGIโs mission to drive innovation in accelerating green growth worldwide and addressing the global climate emergency. The MRV Officer will play an important role within the GGGI Guyana team to support the country program in addressing integrated climate change planning activities associated with developing and operating MRV systems compliant with the ETF of the Paris Agreement, supporting the assessment of GHG emissions for developing mitigation actions, and updating climate change mitigation-related high-level policy documents, plans, and strategies.
ENGAGEMENT
The MRV Officer shall proactively engage in collaboration, knowledge-sharing, communications, and advocacy for advancing country efforts to meet Paris Agreement commitments by:
Building and leveraging collaboration with and resources from international organizations (including the UNFCCC), partnerships, and platforms as well as research institutions, academic institutions, and other organizations, where relevant, to support project implementation;
Engaging and collaborating with key staff in the Latin America and Caribbean country teams and other GGGI divisions, including other country teams, throughout the project design and implementation process, and supporting in-country technical advisory services;
Engaging and collaborating with the GCF Readiness and UK PACT;
Supporting and/or leading stakeholder engagement, visioning exercises, consultations, and other activities necessary to formulate systems, strategies, and relevant policy documents;
Engaging, where necessary, with government and non-government counterparts to support relevant project and policy implementation
DELIVERY
The MRV Officer is responsible for supporting and, in some cases, leading technical assistance activities as part of GGGI Guyanaโs efforts to promote integrated planning for low emission climate resilient green growth. Relevant tasks will include:
Provide local support to GGGI consultants and GGGI Regional MRV officers on the development of the national MRV, including organization of consultation meetings with relevant stakeholders for data gathering, follow-up meetings to inform and validate guidelines and recommendations on national MRV
Support the development and implementation of MRV methodologies, protocols, and tools in line with IPCC guidelines and relevant UNFCCC decisions.
Contribute to enhancing and maintaining the national MRVS database and geospatial infrastructure.
Support data collection, processing, QA/QC, and reporting as required under the MRVS.
Contribute to developing MRV sustainability strategies, including institutional arrangements, financing mechanisms, and human capacity development.
Technical input and data products supporting the MRV components of the GCF Readiness and UK PACT projects.
Participate in preparing national MRV-related reports and submissions (e.g., Biennial Transparency Reports, REDD+ Technical Annexes).
Liaise with consultants, government agencies, and technical partners involved in MRV activities.
Lead the capacity building of Guyana MRV to stakeholders.
Support the organization of technical workshops, training, and capacity-building activities.
Support the Design of the project communication and knowledge sharing plan.
Understanding GGGIโs project implementation cycle and organizing work to ensure project outputs, activities, and deliverables and project reporting are completed and submitted on a timely basis.
Managing individual consultants and/or small consultancy projects.
Reviewing project outputs for quality control and addressing delivery issues with internal and external project collaborators.
Supporting and contributing to GGGI resource mobilization efforts related to MRV, LT-LEDS, and NDC development.
Preparing relevant technical studies, guidelines, reports, and publications where applicable.
Preparing relevant, high-quality communications materials (fact sheets, project brochures, media releases, website content, etc.).
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a Guyanese citizen or holding a valid Work Visa.
Masterโs or equivalent degree (or higher) in fields relevant to the described position (Forestry, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing, GIS, Climate Change, or a related field).
Preferably 6-8 years of professional experience in the MRVS field, with at least 3 years in GHG measurement, accounting, analysis, and reporting systems at project, sectoral, or national levels.
Experience with GIS and remote sensing software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine) is a plus.
Familiarity with IPCC Guidelines, UNFCCC REDD+ requirements, and/or transparency frameworks.
Experience working with government institutions and multi-stakeholders is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The MVR Officer is a National Position at X8 grade level in GGGIโs Guyana national salary scale. The salary range for the position starts at USD 29,915 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision.
