Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
UNICEF works in some of the worldโs most challenging environments to reach the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children - to save their lives, defend their rights, and help them realize their full potential. With operations in over 190 countries and territories, UNICEF leads efforts to improve child health, education, protection, and development, guided by the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the core commitment to equity and inclusion.
Globally, and in Uzbekistan, UNICEFโs health and development agenda is centered on ensuring that every child survives and thrives, especially during the critical early years of life. Health inequities, particularly those affecting newborns and mothers, are a persistent challenge. The burden of preventable maternal and neonatal mortality remains unacceptably high in many countries, including Uzbekistan, despite overall health system improvements. Addressing these disparities requires a focused, coordinated, and data-driven approach across all levels of care.
In this context, UNICEF is leading a major inter-agency initiative in Uzbekistan, joint UN programme titled: โEvery Mother and Child Survives and Thrives: Reducing Preventable Maternal and Newborn Deaths in 227 Perinatal Centres of Uzbekistanโ (Maternal and Neonatal Health Programme). This programme is funded by the ISHONCH Fund (also known as the Uzbekistan Vision 2030 Fund). It is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The programme officially launched in September 2023 and will continue through March 2026.
As the convening agency, UNICEF provides leadership in overall programme coordination, strategic planning, and results monitoring. The programme aims to strengthen the national healthcare systemโs ability to deliver high-quality maternal and newborn care across all 227 perinatal centres in the country. It also supports health system reforms aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Uzbekistanโs national development priorities.
To support knowledge management and documentation efforts of the Child Health and Development Section, including the Maternal and Neonatal Health Programme, UNICEF seeks to engage a National Knowledge Management Support Consultant who will support the systematic documentation, organization, and dissemination of knowledge. The consultant will be supporting with capturing evidence, lessons learned, and best practices, developing user-friendly knowledge products, including case studies, human interest stories and reports.
Scope of Work:
Under the supervision of the Chief of Health, the consultant will deliver the following outputs:

Travel:ย Local travelย is not foreseen for this consultancy assignment. However, in the event that duty travel becomes necessary for the fulfilment of the assignment, all related travel expenses will be covered by UNICEF in accordance with its applicable travel policies and procedures.
