5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

How you can make a difference:

UNFPA is committed to delivering an integrated, multi-agency, nationwide response to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) needs.ย

About UNFPA

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.ย  UNFPAโ€™s strategic plan (2022-2025), reaffirms the relevance of the current strategic direction of UNFPA and focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030. Our strategic plan calls upon UN Member States, organizations and individuals to โ€œbuild forward betterโ€, while addressing the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on womenโ€™s and girlsโ€™ access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, recover lost gains and realize our goals.

In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.

Purpose of consultancy:

UNFPA is seekingย a Monitoringย and Evaluation Project Associate in Humanitarianย to support the UNFPA Afghanistan work on monitoringย and evaluation of FCDO, Canada, CERF, andย DFAT-funded projects. The consultant was initially engaged through a non-competitive selection process for aย seven-month period, fromย 01 September 2024 to 31 July 2025. As a key member of both the Humanitarian and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Units, the consultant has been pivotal in supporting SDP mapping, donor reporting, coordinating the RMNCAH working group, managingย  RH Supplies data, and enhancing the Office Information Management System. These contributions have significantly improved the officeโ€™s analytical capacity and strengthened reporting, which is crucial for evidence-based programming.

Given the critical role the consultant plays in advancing the M&E framework, it is essential toย renew the contract for an additionalย four months, from 01ย September 2025 to 31 December 2025. Thisย renewal will ensure continuity, build on the momentum already established, and further strengthen the unitโ€™s capacity to implement a robust monitoring and evaluation system. Such sustained support is necessary to effectively communicate impactful results to donors, thereby enhancing the credibility of the Country Office (CO) and ensuring the successful implementation of program activities aligned with donor commitments.
