Work LocationHome-based in Egypt Expected duration22.06.25 - 21.06.26 Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: The International Trade Centre has implemented the GTEX / MENATEX programme from 2019 to December 2023 and starting the second phase which will run until December 2027. Both programmes are funded by the Swiss Government under the Global Textile and Clothing Program (GTEX - Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan) as well as by the Swedish Government under the Program for the Middle East and the Middle East. North Africa on textiles (MENATEX - Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia). The second phase of GTEX MENATEX is focusing on the 4 MENA countries of Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia as well as Sri Lanka. It builds on the achievements of the first phase, consolidates them where required, but focusses on the main challenges that T&C manufacturers face to continue exporting to world markets, namely the twin transition of digitalization and environmental (and social) sustainability. To address these and the expected radical market changes leading to higher imports in Western markets of โ€œgreenโ€ quality products with lower volumes of fast fashion, the programme will be transformational in nature. A major driver for this is the forthcoming legislation in the EU, individual EU member states and the US. Both the EU and the US focus on the need for a more circular T&C sector in the EU/US and all supplying countries. While these are EU and US regulations respectively, the need for ensuring a level playing field will factually impose the same requirements on all manufacturers that would like to supply these two markets.
