Introduction
Post Title: Lead Consultant-Illegal wildlife trade specialist-Thailand
Project Name: Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE)
Country of Assignment: Home-based, with occasional travel nationally (Bangkok and surroundings)
Duration of Assignment: Tentative 21 July 2025 to 30 September 2025 for maximum of 35 working days
The UNODC Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE) addresses serious transnational organized crimes such as wildlife trafficking, illegal logging, fisheries crimes, and illegal mining. It works to enhance regional and national law enforcement capacities through technical assistance and capacity building, particularly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Recognizing a major gap in understanding the gender dynamics of wildlife and forest crime, UNODC, in partnership with the Government of Canada, is launching research focused on Southeast Asiaโspecifically Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. The project aims to explore the roles women play in both enabling and preventing illegal wildlife trade. Field researchers will be engaged to collect and analyze data related to gender roles in wildlife crime, with a focus on key species in the region. The findings will inform future programming and policy, contributing to more effective and inclusive environmental law enforcement responses across the region.
