Work LocationHome-based Expected duration10 March to 9 May 2025 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic has been mandated by the General Assembly in its resolution 77/301 to clarify the fate and whereabouts of missing persons in Syria, and to provide adequate support to victims, survivors, and the families of those missing. The Independent Institutionโs founding resolution places emphasis on the full and meaningful representation of victims, survivors, and the families of missing persons. To increase its outreach capacity, and with a view of sharing timely, accurate, and accessible information on its mandate and how victims and survivors can safely engage with it, the Independent Institution will hire a consultant with specialized skills and work experience in communications and targeted outreach to impacted communities, with fluency in the Arabic language and prior work experience in the MENA region. The consultant will support the design and implementation of an awareness-raising campaign on the mandate of the Independent Institution, targeting primarily the families of the missing and survivors. The consultant will also support the development of targeted messaging and communications material and its dissemination. The consultant will also be expected to produce a final report summarizing the results of the campaign, challenges, lessons learned, and any needed follow-up. a) The consultant will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of audio/visual content, such as short videos, reels, social media cards, and a brochure, in consultation with the Independent Institution team and specifically the Public Information Officer, as part of a series of communication outputs on the mandate and operations of the Independent Institution. b) Support the design, creation, translation, and implementation of an awareness-raising campaign, including timeline, sequencing of outputs, and dissemination strategies. c) Production of a report at the conclusion of the consultancy, summarizing key achievements, challenges, and recommendations for future work. Qualifications/special skillsFirst degree in journalism, international relations, social sciences, or related to human rights. At least five years of professional experience in communication, outreach, and public information, including digital communication and social media related to humanitarian settings and/or human rights issues. A minimum of three years experience in working on public information and outreach campaigns in the Arabic language and coordination with multiple actors including civil society organisations and international bodies is required. Substantive experience in working on the situation in Syria is highly desirable. LanguagesFluency in English and Arabic is required. Additional InformationNot available.
