WHO leads global efforts to expand universal health coverage. We direct and coordinate the worldโs response to health emergencies. And we promote healthier lives โ from pregnancy care through old age. Our Triple Billion targets outline an ambitious plan for the world to achieve good health for all using science-based policies and programmes. WHOโs Thirteenth General Programme of Work (GPW 13) defines WHOโs strategy for the five-year period, 2019-2023. It focuses on triple billion targets to achieve measurable impacts on peopleโs health at the country level. The triple billion targets are to ensure by 2023: โข One billion more people are benefiting from universal health coverage โข One billion more people are better protected from health emergencies โข One billion more people are enjoying better health and well-being.
ContextThe WHO country office in Jordan has transited from GPW 13 to the Fourteenth General Programme of Work (GPW 14) for 2025-2028. These strategic frameworks guide WHOโs priorities, with a strong focus on strengthening country offices to deliver impactful results. GPW 14 outlines an ambitious agenda to realign global efforts toward achieving the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing critical health challenges through six strategic objectives: 1. Responding to climate change, an escalating health threat. 2. Advance the PHC approach and essential health system capacities for UHC. 3. Prevent, mitigate, and prepare for health risks from all hazards. 4. Address determinants of health and root causes of ill health. 5. Improve health service coverage and financial protection. 6. Rapidly detect and sustain response to health emergencies In Jordan, the WHO Country Office (WCO) aligns its efforts with national priorities, as reflected in Jordanโs Economic Modernization Vision and the Ministry of Health Strategic Plan 2023-2025, through the COUNTRY COOPERATION STRATEGY 2021-2025. Key CCS priorities include: - Strengthening the health system to advance UHC. - Building health system resilience and emergency preparedness. - Promoting health and well-being. - Enhancing data and innovation capacity. A new Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS 2026-2030) is under development, that adapts the recent WHO country function evaluation recommendation emphasizing on strengthening mobilizing resources to facilitate WHOโs strategic and technical directions in implementing country priorities. In line with Jordan Economic Modernization Vision and adhering to UN Cooperative Framework, WHOโs global and regional priorities must ensure measurable impact at country level. Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, the UN Volunteer will contribute to the WHO Jordan Country office (WCO) Results Based Management, through monitoring and support periodic reporting, with a special focus on the donor projects monitoring and reporting such as the pandemic preparedness, aligning GPW14 priorities and national targets: - Contribute to WHO Jordan Country office (WCO) Activity Work Plan 2026 monitoring and reporting on quarterly basis/ad-hoc, measuring the progress of output indicators, especially supporting periodic reporting on pandemic preparedness project, flagship initiatives and other donor projects. - Perform field monitoring visits, as per the output of the project and produce assurance report as per the timeline indicated in the agreed project proposal. - Assist supportive supervision by technical officers of the specific project for assurance purposes. - Contribute to the data analysis on periodic basis, such as the value proposition statements and achievements of the projects. - Support PME team in performing mid- term and end of project evaluations. - Support in producing periodic reports for WHO Jordan Country office (WCO), including donor reports. - Assist in documentation of technical and communication products of donor projects. - Any other related tasks as required by WHO Jordan Country office (WCO).

Living conditions and remarksAmman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship). As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the insurance plan.
