Gut-Brain Axis Laboratory is involved in observational and interventional research projects encompassing phase 1/2/3 clinical trials on autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases under the Infectious Diseases Division.

Position Description:

The Medical Officer will report to the Senior Scientist and will be responsible for Project Implementation, enrolment of participants, Supervision & monitoring of field activities, Clinical treatment and training support. She/he will also be involved in -

Understand research protocol and plan for its implementation (milestones, deliverables etc.); Align implementation plans across partners (internal and external); Assign work to the team and initiate activities as per the project plan; Conduct regular meetings with team members to monitor deliverables against timelines and research criteria; enrolled and tested, and share it with the supervisor. Coordinate with the supervisor for IRB-related issues of the project. Interact with community leaders to seek buy-in for research activities; Shortlist participants for inclusion in the research study. Seek consent from the shortlisted participants by providing rationale and answers to concerns raised; Record basic demographic information and detailed participants' history for treatment. Direct team to implement research activities (fill questionnaire, administer intervention, etc.), when required; Compile and record results; Update records; Follow-up on the health of participants to record outcome; Monitor participants for complications, adverse events, serious adverse events, and to take immediate actions and keep the supervisor updated regularly; Resolve any queries and escalate appropriate issues; Prepare report and share findings with the supervisor to execute activities by research protocol; Coordinate with other staff; Supervise and guide staff in the team for day-to-day tasks. Supervise and monitor disease surveillance in different health facilities; Guide young professionals and prepare them for higher responsibilities; Take appropriate actions to manage poor performance and Train up staff in order to build and develop an engaged and high-performing team

Required qualifications and experience:

MBBS degree from a reputed institution with valid BMDC (Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council) registration. Master in Public Health (MPH) will be an added advantage. At least 3 years of experience; Candidates having experience in hospital-based research, clinical practice, and field research activities are highly expected; Prior work experience in clinical trials will be an added advantage.

Contract Type and duration:

Short Term Contractual Service Agreement basis; duration will be 4 months with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

Tk 134,048/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
