Organizational Setting, Purpose, and Objective: On 8 September 2022, the General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 76/306 to establish a UN Youth Office as a dedicated entity for youth affairs within the Secretariat. The UN Youth Office is mandated to lead system-wide youth coordination, advocacy and policy coherence across the UN, while also promoting the meaningful engagement of young people in UN processes and decisions. A critical dimension of this work includes facilitating youth consultations, promoting intergenerational dialogue, and amplifying the voices and contributions of young people at the global level, including during key UN moments such as the General Assembly. The Office also manages flagship initiatives such as the Young Leaders for the SDGs, which celebrates young change-makers advancing sustainable development and connects them to UN processes and platforms. In 2025, the Office will mark the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY) โ a milestone moment to reflect on progress and reinvigorate global commitments to youth empowerment and participation. 2. Objective and Scope of Work The consultant will support the implementation of the UN Youth Officeโs meaningful youth engagement activities. 3. Duties and Responsibilities (Included in JO Posting): The consultant will support the implementation of the UN Youth Officeโs meaningful youth engagement activities, including but not limited to: 1. Youth Engagement Activities and Events a) Plan and execute engagements related to the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action on Youth, including multistakeholder roundtables, consultations and youth-facing events. b) Contribute to the youth engagement programming and logistics during the UN General Assembly period, including identifying youth speakers and preparing briefing materials. c) Contribute to the design and facilitation of youth consultations and intergenerational roundtables/dialogues. 2. Young Leaders for the SDGs (2025 Cohort) a) Oversee coordination of the 2025 Young Leaders for the SDGs cohort. b) Maintain regular communication with current and past Young Leaders, supporting engagement in UN initiatives. c) Identify visibility and advocacy opportunities for the cohort, as well as relevant capacity-building and upskilling opportunities. 3. Communications and Outreach a) Provide communications support related to meaningful youth engagement activities, including drafting web copy, social media content, outreach emails and concept notes. b) Contribute to the development and dissemination of youth-facing outreach materials. c) Liaise with internal and external partners to promote events and initiatives. 4. Project Management and Administration a) Prepare background notes, talking points, and briefing materials for high-level meetings and youth engagements. b) Coordinate timelines and day-to-day project management for youth engagement events and activities. c) Draft internal documentation, contribute to archiving and knowledge-sharing related to youth engagement initiatives. Qualifications/special skillsA first level university degree in social sciences, sustainable development, media, and communications or any related field is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in programme management and/or managing youth-focused initiatives is required. Previous work experience in creating, implementing and supporting youth-focused advocacy campaigns or programmes is desirable. Experience facilitating intergenerational or multistakeholder dialogues or consultations is desirable. Experience in sustainable development, global youth policy outlook, and trends is desirable. Previous experience working with international organizations is desirable. LanguagesFluency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency of other UN Languages is desirable.
