Mission and objectivesEstablished in 1951, International Organization for Migration (IOM) is part of the United Nations System and stands as the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration. With 175 member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in 172 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing support to migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration and providing advice on migration policy and practice. The organization collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners to improve the resilience of people on the move, particularly those in situations of vulnerability. It also works closely with governments to manage all forms of mobility, and their impacts. This work includes operations in some of the most complex emergency settings in the world. The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement. IOMโs work is focused on the following three objectives: 1. Saving lives and protecting people on the move: To fulfill this objective, IOM puts the safety, dignity and protection of people first in the most challenging crisis response contexts in the world. 2. Driving solutions to displacement: In response to this aim, IOM endeavors to reduce the risks and impacts of climate change, environmental degradation, conflict and instability for communities affected by or at risk of displacement. 3. Facilitating pathways for regular migration: To address this pursuit, IOM prioritizes whole-of-government, whole-of-society approaches to safely connect people, goods, services, knowledge and innovation.
ContextThe UN Volunteer will be expected to assist in amplifying the IOMโs work in India through print and social media, production of short videos and newsletters. The UNV will be guided by the one of the programme team leaders in terms of setting the objectives of the placement, orientation to various programme portfolios and constant supervision throughout the duration of the placement.
Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the Head of Office, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Support in amplifying the IOMโs key messages on safe, orderly and regular migration through social media and print media. 2. Assist in the production of short videos and newsletters. 3. Assist in conceptualising and developing migrant-oriented literature 4. Assist the IOM Programme Team Members in ensuring that holistic and accurate infor-mation is made available in both print and digital formats to various stakeholders, including aspiring migrants, students, and private recruitment agents, to create awareness. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: โข Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); โข Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; โข Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; โข Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; โข Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; โข Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Living conditions and remarksNew Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region is a large and bustling metropolis of some 14 million people undergoing rapid changes. The capital city is an administrative, cultural and commercial center with modern amenities and well connected by air. It is a safe place with large expatriate community drawn from embassies, UN agencies, MNCs and foreign businesses. It has short moderate winter and long hot summer. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
