5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

JOB SUMMARY CARE is a recognized global leader in the humanitarian and development space. Each year, we reach millions of people through innovative, people-centered programs that tackle poverty, advance gender equality, and respond to humanitarian emergencies. At CARE, we believe in bold action, deep collaboration, and delivering high-impact results. If youโ€™re passionate about driving change at scaleโ€”and doing so with compassion, integrity, and excellenceโ€”we invite you to join our team. What Weโ€™re Looking For We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Major Gifts Manager to play a key role in powering CAREโ€™s individual giving strategy. This position supports the success of our Major Gifts team by managing fundraising campaigns, coordinating portfolio activities, and producing donor-centric communications. The ideal candidate is an operational powerhouse with a passion for donor engagement, a sharp eye for detail, and an unwavering commitment to CAREโ€™s mission. Whether you're a seasoned fundraiser or a highly organized professional with adjacent experience, we want to hear from you. We value diverse experiences, non-traditional career paths, and transferable skills. Key Responsibilities 1. Fundraising Campaigns & Donor Outreach (45%) Partner with Relationship Managers (RMs) to design and execute targeted outreach strategies based on donor interests, giving patterns, and relationship stage. Lead the creation and execution of segmented mail and email campaigns, working closely with the Major Gifts Operations Specialist to ensure data accuracy and audience alignment. Identify lapsed, under-engaged, or high-potential donors; propose and implement re-engagement strategies. Conduct light-touch prospect research and collaborate with CAREโ€™s Research team to inform donor strategies. 2. Portfolio and Pipeline Management (30%) Maintain up-to-date donor pipelines in Salesforce, tracking opportunities, stewardship actions, and revenue projections. Support gift entry, receipting, and stewardship workflows in partnership with the Operations Specialist and Relationship Managers. Track and follow up on complex giving vehicles (e.g., donor-advised funds, private foundations, stock gifts), ensuring timely acknowledgment and personalized stewardship. ยท Proactively surface data gaps, engagement opportunities, and operational improvements for assigned donor portfolios. 3. Donor Communications & Briefings (25%) Draft compelling donor communications, including personalized emails, follow-up notes, and stewardship updates that reflect CAREโ€™s impact and the donorโ€™s values. Prepare internal briefing materials for donor meetingsโ€”bios, agendas, and strategic talking pointsโ€”with a focus on clarity, discretion, and alignment. Ensure all written deliverables meet high standards of quality, tone, and timeliness. 4. Cross-Team Collaboration & Special Projects (5%) Participate in team-wide strategic initiatives and special projects to enhance major donor cultivation, stewardship, and internal coordination. Contribute ideas and solutions that improve team efficiency, elevate donor experiences, and support a culture of excellence. Qualifications Required: Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or a related field. 4โ€“6 years of relevant experience in major gifts fundraising, donor communications, or campaign/project management. Proven success in coordinating high-quality fundraising campaigns and supporting frontline fundraisers. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skillsโ€”particularly for donor and external audiences. Strong proficiency in Salesforce (or similar CRM), Microsoft Office Suite, and collaborative platforms like Monday.com or Asana. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. High emotional intelligence and a collaborative spirit; comfortable working cross-functionally with fundraisers, leadership, and external stakeholders. Preferred: Experience working with high-net-worth donors or within a major gifts team in a large, matrixed organization. Familiarity with donor-advised funds, private foundations, and philanthropic giving vehicles. Commitment to CAREโ€™s values of equity, courage, excellence, and inclusion.
