Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to UN Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, as well as to Agencies, Funds and Programmes worldwide. The subject post is located in the Warehouse and Distribution (W&D) Unit and is embedded in the organizational structure of the Delivery and Return Section (DRS) of the Supply Chain Service (SCS) at the UNGSC, Brindisi, Italy. This position reports to the Team Lead of the Warehouse and Distribution Unit. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties: โข Coordinates and provides logistics support to ongoing air, land, sea, or rail operations in the area. โข Identifies, mobilizes resources, implements and reports on special logistics operations. โข Provides and coordinates logistics support to military, police, security and substantive components of the mission. โข Drafts and coordinates logistics plans and other documents supporting the implementation of logistics operations, as directed by Head of Unit or Section Chief โข Drafts and coordinates inputs to logistics reports, presentations, briefing notes, and other information documents required by the management, including inputs required by the UNHQ. โข Liaises and coordinates logistics support with other units within the UNGSC, such as transportation, communications, movement control and procurement. โข Coordinates logistics requirements with other UN Missions and Agencies. โข Liaises and coordinates logistics support with UNHQ. โข Ensures that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained. โข Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. โข Performs other related duties as required Competenciesโข Professionalism: Knowledge of supply chain and logistics operations and practices; knowledge of logistics planning, warehouse management, and familiarity with relevant planning tools and ERP. EducationAdvanced University Degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field is required. A first level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Job - Specific QualificationSuccessful completion of a degree or a recognized professional certification (minimum 30 hours) in data analytics, statistics, or computer science that includes practical application is desirable. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable. Work ExperienceA minimum of five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in surface and/or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required. Experience in applying data analysis to inform decisions, and use of analytical tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, R, Python) to produce visualizations or trend analysis for reports or briefings is desirable. Experience in the use of relevant ERP systems (e.g. Umoja) is desirable. Experience in the drafting and reviewing of SOPs, manuals, operational guidance, and reference documentation is desirable.
