Work LocationDakar Expected duration3 Months Duties and Responsibilitiesโข Work in a team of three librarian and develop a comprehensive timeline considering the direction and the volumes of documents. โข Evaluate, inventory, and categorise the 55,000 volumes of documents. โข Rigorously apply the weeding plan criteria and identify, classify, and group documents in the following three categories: a) Category 1 (Preservation): related to documents likely to be preserved. These are documents in good condition, the heritage type relating to the IDEP/ECA identity - those produced within the framework of policies and research carried out in African countries and in intergovernmental organisations and others. b) Category 2 (Donation): this concerns duplicated documents, those emanating from IDEP's partners and which are in several copies, and general commercial works which do not deal with economics and whose content does not correspond to the fields of knowledge dealt with at IDEP. c) Category 3 (Disposal): This concerns any document outside the conservation and donation frameworks defined in the previous sections. โข To provide an accurate and detailed description of the documents per category. โข To ensure the review and the validation on weekly basis of proposals โข To work closely with the labour team to ensure that documents are properly packaged. โข To assist in packaging of books and other related materials (Category 1of the weeding plan โข To assist in the grouping of documents for donation (Category 2) โข Write regular progress reports. Qualifications/special skillsA Highschool diploma plus 2 years of experience is required; a university degree in library science, information science or a related field is an advantage. Relevant experience in libraries, information management, digitization and administration of information networks or a related field would be an advantage. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in French or English is required.
