5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA focuses on advancing womenโ€™s and young peopleโ€™s ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive health rights. Since 1970, UNFPA in Pakistan has supported: Sexual and reproductive health information and services; Adolescents and youth; Womenโ€™s empowerment and gender equality; Population and development. Our programmes expand across the country with tailored interventions for local contexts. We do this through: Gender-responsive and youth-friendly policies, laws and initiatives; Advocacy for increased investments in health and education; Strengthened capacities of government and civil society institutions for youth-led sexual and reproductive health programmes and partnerships; Alliances and strategies to reduce gender inequality; Integrated and multi-sectoral approaches to population dynamics and its linkages to development; Communication strategies that address social norms change; Enhance government partnership with private and civil society sectors. Working with government, civil society partners and other humanitarian agencies, UNFPA Pakistan advocates for the integration of gender and sexual and reproductive health issues by increasing awareness and commitment among policy makers, decision-makers and program managers and strengthening partnerships with national entities to improve coordination for effective preparedness and response. UNFPA is aligned with national priorities (Pakistan 2025 Vision), the United Nations Sustainable Development Framework (UNSDF 2018-2022), UNFPA Strategic Plan (2018-2021), International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs) and Family Planning 2020 commitments.

ContextUNFPA, as a lead agency in working to respond to and reduce gender-based violence, supports programmes in more than 150 countries and territories in humanitarian, peace and development settings. By sharing their learnings / reflections under this assignment, OVs will positively contribute to SDG 5, Gender Equality, and help make the world a more equitable, inclusive, and safer place. Moreover, they will be able to meaningfully support the โ€œ16 Days of Activism against Tech Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV) campaignโ€, which is marked by the launch of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November and concludes on the International Human Rights Day (10 December). Note: The onboarded OV will be based remotely and will not be hosted at any duty station or field office by the United Nations. Note: Fluency in local languages will be beneficial.

Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the Gender Focal Point/s at UNFPA Pakistan, the Online Volunteers (OVs) under this assignment will: โ€ข Participate in a short online orientation session (approximately 3 hours) delivered by UNFPA Pakistan on the 16 Days of Activism Against Tech-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV). The session will cover key concepts, definitions, thematic focus areas, and priority actions for the campaign. โ€ข After receiving the orientation, the online volunteers will then document and share their unique insights, learnings and reflections. These reflections will support UNFPA Pakistan in shaping future programming and strengthening understanding of TFGBV among young volunteers.
