Work LocationRemotely Expected duration1/8-31/12/25 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis TOR is for a contractor to provide high-quality Lao-English and English-Lao language services in support of the LIFT 4 Laos project. The contractor will facilitate effective communication between project stakeholders through interpretation at meetings, workshops, and events (both in person and online) as well as through accurate translation and validation of official documents, reports, and other written materials. Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer, Innovation, Enterprise and Investment Section of the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, the responsibilities are: โข Provide high-quality LaoโEnglish and EnglishโLao interpretation (simultaneous or whisper) during stakeholder consultation meetings, capacity-building workshops, and other project-related events, both in person and online. โข Translate project-related documents, including meeting agendas, presentations, reports, and legal or technical texts, ensuring accuracy, consistency. โข Validate and finalise the English translation of key legal and policy documents, including cross-checking with the original Lao texts and applying appropriate legal terminology. โข Prepare concise summary reports in English language following interpretation assignments. Qualifications/special skills- University degree in economics, administration, business, international development or related field. - Minimum 5 yearsโ proven experience in simultaneous and whisper interpretation, as well as in the written translation of official documents, reports, and meeting materials. - Please indicate whether you have worked with the United Nations and provide the daily rate and hourly rate you expect to charge. - Demonstrated track record in translating legal, technical, and policy documents. Experience in areas such as investment, trade, economic development, and governance are an advantage. - Proven ability to interpret complex subject matter accurately and fluently for diverse audiences, including government officials and international stakeholders. - Membership in a recognised professional association of translators and/or interpreters is preferred. - Ability to supply or arrange professional-grade interpretation equipment (e.g., booths, headsets, microphones) for in-person events is considered an advantage.
