Organizational Setting
The Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE) leads FAO's support to countries in the region in transforming their agrifood systems to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It identifies regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development and ensures the planning and implementation of FAO's strategic response in the region through a multidisciplinary approach. It implements approved programmes and projects, monitors programme implementation and ensures that they contribute to addressing regional priorities. RNE also advises on the incorporation of regional priorities into the FAO Strategic Framework and Programme of Work and Budget.

Technical Focus
High quality delivery of language training, enhancing the personnel capacities to ensure that the Organization maintains the high level of multilingualism required to fulfil its mandate.
Furtherly developing linguistic and cultural repertoire through language training to succeed in intercultural communication and cooperation throughout the organization and with external stakeholders.
โข ย ย ย ย Language classes usually take place twice a week for a duration of 4 to 6 monthsย
โข ย ย ย ย Two or three sessions per year to be delivered, depending on the duration of each sessionย
โข ย ย ย ย All skills should be consolidated during the classes: listening, reading, speaking, and writing
Tasks and responsibilities
โข ย ย ย ย Perform placement test determining level of knowledge of language taught.
โข ย ย ย ย Deliver courses in the target language only.
โข ย ย ย ย Deliver online group and individual language courses through different platforms as applicable (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.)
โข ย ย ย ย Deliver language courses in the target language only and ensuring that listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills are being taught at the specific level.ย
โข ย ย ย ย Keep each class folder updated with the syllabus, lesson plans, attendance, and activity logs.
โข ย ย ย ย Provide studentโs progress reports (next level, pass/fail, and comments) at the end of each group and/or individual class.
โข ย ย ย ย Provide Syllabus of courses (as per Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages, levels should be aligned; A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 etc. and ย UN Language Framework | HR Portal.

Minimum Requirements
โข ย ย ย ย University degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in relevant field such as language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication or education (i.e Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese Language and/or literature)
โข ย ย ย ย Minimum 3 years of working experience is required in teaching adults in an international environment (providing reference), language training, evaluation of knowledge of target language, etcย
โข ย ย ย ย Full proficiency/Working knowledge (level C) of one of the following FAO languages: Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese (for Arabic โ only Modern Standard Arabic is accepted).

Technical/Functional Skills
โข ย ย ย ย Extent of experience in delivering Modern Standard Arabic courses complying with Arabic Language Proficiency Test (ALPT) which is the global standard for measuring student proficiency levels in Arabic.
โข ย ย ย ย Availability of maintaining schedules for group and individual online courses.ย
โข ย ย ย ย Extent of knowledge to teach group and/or individual language courses.
โข ย ย ย ย Demonstrated ability to update and present a course syllabus for each course taught during the contract (group and individual).
โข ย ย ย ย Excellent communication skills.
Selection Criteriaย
โข ย ย ย ย Intermediate/Limited knowledge of another FAO language (level B) is an asset.
ย
