5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Who we are and what do we do? WRI India, an independent charity legally registered as the India Resources Trust, provides objective information and practical proposals to foster environmentally sound and socially equitable development. WRI Indiaโ€™s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earthโ€™s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations. Through research, analysis, and recommendations, WRI India puts ideas into action to build transformative solutions to protect the earth, promote livelihoods, and enhance human well-being. We are inspired by and associated with World Resources Institute (WRI), a global research organization. Currently, over 300 researchers are working with WRI India in our offices in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Program Overview for Climate At WRI Indiaโ€™s Climate Program, we focus on integrated solutions that can enable a low-carbon transition in India, while ensuring that the transition is equitable and just for its people and protects natural resources. Through applied research, the use of frameworks and tools, partnerships with key stakeholders and ground-level implementation, we seek to achieve impact at scale. Position Overview India has committed to becoming Net Zero by 2070 and has also submitted long-term strategies to decarbonise. While these are broad targets, there are several low-carbon pathways that India can take towards these targets. However, India has a double challenge of balancing these climate goals with its development goals of becoming a developed economy by 2047 as well as ensure that the transition is both just and equitable. Our system dynamics models help explore the consequences of Indiaโ€™s low-carbon pathways. IWRI India is looking for a Program Associate for its Climate, Economics and Finance (CEF) Program. The selected candidate will contribute to research, modelling, and capacity building activities related to Indiaโ€™s low-carbon development pathways. The position offers a good opportunity to contribute to shaping the analysis of alternative low-carbon development pathways based on research and energy-economy modelling. The selected candidate will support the research team in developing scenarios related to land and water-use implications of net zero pathways, studying the fiscal impacts of critical minerals, undertaking sectoral studies on agriculture, food and land-use sectors, and incorporating elements of equity and justice in modelling net zero pathways. The candidate will also conduct comprehensive data collection from public sources and perform in-depth literature reviews to support research and analysis. The candidate is also expected to conduct dialogues and stakeholder workshops with diverse stakeholders including government, industry, academia, civil society organizations, and think tanks. The dialogues and workshops will serve at platforms to review the ongoing work, identify and prioritise future research questions, exchange knowledge, and disseminate research findings. The candidate should have a broad understanding of energy and climate landscape in the country and prior research and writing experience (either energy-economy modelling or quantitative research/ qualitative research on environment/ energy/ climate policy issues). ResponsibilitiesThe junior program associate will be responsible for the following tasks:
