INTRODUCTION TO GGGI
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. To learn more please visit about GGGI web page.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
While the share of EVs has been rapidly increasing across Jordan, standardization in the EV ecosystem and associated capacity building to the public sector are urgently needed to stimulate private sector investment in the charging infrastructure as well as ensure the safety of users and protect their rights.
The Jordan updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) indicates that the transport sector is the largest energy consumer in the country. Four priority measures are brought forward in the NDC's mitigation section and three of them are directly related to the electrification of the transport sector. To accelerate NDC implementation, GGGI is executing a project titled โSupport for e-mobility Adoption in Jordan Through National Standards Development and Disseminationโ This project will contribute to the implementation of the three NDC priority measures for the transport sector by:
1) Developing and adopting electric vehicle (EV) safety and charging national standards.
2) Delivering training and capacity building to key government stakeholders on EV standards.
