Taking a โleave no one behindโ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. UNDPโs Internship Programme provides interns with a framework for gaining experience through practical work assignments and exposure to UNDPโs work. One of the most important advantages of being an intern is the close interaction with the supervisor and colleagues and the opportunity to develop the skills required within a professional environment.ย
UNDP Montenegro works towards a gender-equal society, where women and men, girls and boys, in all their diversity, enjoy equal rights and opportunities to thrive, contribute, and lead. Advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women is central to UNDPโs mandate and approach to sustainable and inclusive development, fully aligned with the 2030 Agenda, EU integration processes, and Montenegroโs national priorities.ย
UNDP supports national partners in accelerating transformative change by strengthening policy and legal frameworks, enhancing institutional capacities, and promoting gender-responsive governance, while also working at the community level to empower women economically and socially. The Gender Equality Cluster applies a systemic and data-driven approach to gender mainstreaming across public institutions and policies, while fostering inclusive dialogue, raising awareness, and addressing structural inequalities. Activities include supporting the Government of Montenegro in implementing its National Strategy for Gender Equality and integrating gender across strategic priorities and development planning, as well as empowering womenโparticularly in rural and northern communitiesโto actively engage in green entrepreneurship, climate-smart agriculture, and digital innovation. This comprehensive support enhances access to finance, skills, services, and leadership opportunities, helping close the gender gap in various sectors.ย
Despite progress, including improvements in Montenegroโs Gender Equality Index, persistent disparities remain, underscoring the importance of sustained institutional reform, political commitment, and community-level engagement. Through a combination of technical assistance, evidence-based policy work, and direct support to women-led initiatives, UNDP aims to reinforce gender equality mechanisms and enable long-term, inclusive, and locally driven development. To achieve this, Gender cluster is implementing various projects. One of them โUnited in Gender Equalityโ, designed to enhance Montenegroโs governmentโs capacities to promote gender equality and apply gender mainstreaming across strategic, legislative and policy frameworks and state programmes and development plans. Technical assistance and gender mainstreaming support will be informed by gender analyses, and guided by tools, methods, and knowledge products, ensuring dialogue.
Within this context, the UNDP Internship Programme offers emerging professionals valuable hands-on experience and exposure to development work, through close collaboration with the Gender Equality Cluster team and participation in the design and implementation of impactful gender-focused initiatives.
