A place to make a difference:
In this full-time, 12 month fixed-term position (preferably based in Melbourne, Sydney, or Canberra), you will work on developing strategic policy and advocacy products, as well as engage in direct lobbying, to engage and influence key stakeholders. You will have particular focus on the organisation’s priority crisis settings, including Syria, Myanmar, Yemen and Afghanistan. You will be part of our dynamic International Programs team and report to our Executive Group Director-International Programs.
You will make a difference by:
· Identifying, analysing and communicating key humanitarian and development policy issues pertaining to agreed focus areas; and identify and capitalise upon opportunities at the national and international level.
· Producing high quality and strategic policy and advocacy products, targeting the Australian government or other stakeholders as necessary, with a view to achieving positive change for children in humanitarian emergencies, including through increased media coverage.
· Providing guidance and advise to senior staff members as necessary on key developments in humanitarian policy.
· Providing strategic input and advice to, where required, relevant initiatives of the ACFID humanitarian reference group
· Participating in working groups and at appropriate forums to advance the organisation’s policy and research work.
· Preparing evidence-based and influential research briefs for advocacy purposes

You have high-level and robust policy analysis skills, paired with an ability to engage both critically and constructively with government and partners on current and emerging humanitarian affairs. You have an in-depth understanding and proven experience in using an array of advocacy tools to influence change, including private and public advocacy. You have the confidence and good judgement to make difficult decisions in complex and fast-moving policy areas, and you thrive on working in high pressure contexts.
This role requires:
· Highly developed policy analysis skills, including the ability to analyse complex policy issues and adapt for a variety of audiences.
· A high-level understanding of government, including policy development and experience in political lobbying and relationship management.
· Ability to network and build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
· Excellent written and expressive communication skills, including the ability to adapt writing style for a range of audiences and products including government submissions, internal policy briefs and media.
· Experience working on humanitarian and development issues.
