Introduction
Post Title: International Consultant for Regional Study on Environmental Justice
Project Name: Rule of Law and Human Rights Team, Regional Study on Environmental Justice in the Asia-Pacific Region, UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub
Country of Assignment: Home-based with possible travel to Bangkok
Duration of Assignment: Tentative 16 July 2025 to 20 November 2025 for maximum of 45 working days
UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub will undertake a regional study to generate an evidence-based analysis of environmental justice across Asia and the Pacific. The study will examine both substantive and procedural environmental rightsโsuch as the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, and principles of access to information, participation, and justiceโwhile assessing legal and policy frameworks at national and regional levels, including National Biodiversity Strategies and National Adaptation Plans. It will also evaluate enforcement capacities and stakeholder roles, including those of civil society, environmental defenders, and justice institutions. Applying an intersectional lens, the study will highlight how overlapping social, economic, and geographic inequalities shape disproportionate environmental harms and justice barriers for Indigenous peoples, women, youth, and other marginalized groups. The findings will inform practical recommendations to promote inclusive, rights-based environmental governance and strengthen legal empowerment across the region.
