Expected duration15 November 2025 - 15 February 2026 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Statistics Divisionโs internship is for at least three months with an opportunity for extension up to 6 months, if required by the division. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The ESCAP Statistics Division is guided by the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and the Principles Governing International Statistical Activities, and by the work programme and the membership of ESCAP. Our mandates arise from a number of General Assembly, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and ESCAP resolutions. The core areas of the Division's work include implementing programmes for capacity building in statistics; collecting and analysing data on the region; and publishing statistical and analytical publications. We work closely with the ESCAP Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific and organizations that are part of national statistics systems in the region (national statistical offices are our main counterparts); the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs; other United Nations entities; and with a large number of regional and international organizations that have a mandate in statistics. The Statistical Data Management Unit (SDMU) within the Statistics Division is responsible for publishing the annual Asia-Pacific SDG Progress Report. It also provides tailored support to countries to strengthen their capacity for monitoring progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as their national development targets. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individualโs background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following. Within delegated authority, the duties of the incumbent may include the following: 1. Support the dissemination of the SDG progress report through ESCAPโs web page and with the application of AI tools. 2. Support the visualization and user-friendly communication of the SDG data analysis for Asia and the Pacific 3. Support SDMU in enhancing the data management and application of statistical techniques for the analysis of SDG data 4. Perform other tasks as required. Qualifications/special skillsBachelorโs degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field is required. Applicant shall be computer literate in standard software applications. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage. Additional InformationIt is optional to do the internship remotely. Applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely due to constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel, or access to UN premises. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
