Work LocationBangkok Expected duration3-6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Social Development Division/ Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section internship is for 3-6 months. The Social Development Division consists of three sections namely: 1) Sustainable Demographic Transition Section (SDTS); 2) Sustainable Socio-economic Transformation Section (SETS) and 3) Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS), covering the thematic areas of inequality and social protection, population dynamics, ageing, migration, gender equality, disability and youth. The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS) of the Social Development Division covers the thematic areas of gender equality and disability inclusion, including mainstreaming gender and disability inclusion in all areas of ESCAP work. For this internship, ESCAP is looking for candidates to support our work on Disability Inclusion. Specific task assignments will be tailored towards the internโs background, skills and professional development interests. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: โข Conducting research, including data analysis, on critical areas of concern related to disability inclusion, e.g., economic participation, inclusive employment and business, digital inclusion, accessibility and assistive technology, women and girls with disabilities; โข Assisting in organizing and convening internal and external meetings; โข Contributing to the preparation of various written outputs and data visualization, e.g., draft background papers, speeches and presentations; โข Providing substantive and administrative support for implementing technical cooperation projects on disability-inclusive employment and business and digital inclusion; โข Providing support to ESCAPโs implementation of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy; โข Performing other duties as might be assigned by the Chief of Section. The internship is unpaid and full-time and can be performed onsite or remotely. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Interns must also: โข Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite); โข Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and โข Have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of different opinions and views. Interns who have already interned for up to 6 months under UN Secretariat entities should not be re-hired unless they have obtained a different or advanced degree.
