JOB SUMMARY: ย  The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity.ย  Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 275 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe. ย  CSIS seeks an intern to support the Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) with its outreach and communication efforts. The PONI intern will support PONI programming and events. They will also help maintain the Next Generation Nuclear Network website, help manage PONIโ€™s external communications and social media accounts, and provide general administrative support to the team. Interns have the opportunity to produce an independent research product for the Next Generation Nuclear Network website.ย  ย  Because of the fast-paced work environment, interns should be motivated self-starters that enjoy a wide variety of research, analytic, and logistics work. Please note this is an in-person and part-time position. ย  The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($18.00/hour for current undergraduate hires, $19.00/hour for hires with a bachelorโ€™s degree, and $20.00/hour for hires with a masterโ€™s degree). ย  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: ย  โ€ข Support event logistics related to various research projects and programming. โ€ข Compile the Nuclear Policy News mailing three times a week. โ€ข Support PONIโ€™s outreach efforts, including drafting content for social media. โ€ข Produce an independent research product for the Next Generation Nuclear Network blog. ย  KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: ย  โ€ข Must be at least a college junior, graduate student, or recent graduate in Japan studies, International Affairs, or Political Science with a demonstrated interest in the Indo-Pacific region โ€ข At least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution โ€ข Eligible to work in the United States โ€ข Strong communication, research, and writing skills โ€ข Familiarity with Japanese foreign/defense policy and U.S.-Japan relations โ€ข Ability to conduct research using Japanese original sources โ€ข Ability to work independently and within a team โ€ข Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines ย  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS: ย  The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee working in an office environment.ย  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.ย  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. ย  Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or protected veteran status. ย  Equal Opportunity Employer. ย  HOW TO APPLY: ย  Interested applications should submit a resume, cover letter, college transcript (official or unofficial), and 3-5-page writing sample to: https://careers.csis.org/.
