Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. Through its Regional Office for Africa (ROAf), located in Nairobi, Kenya, UN-Habitat has been supporting African governments to take early action to position themselves for predominately urban populations to achieve sustainable urbanization and the right to adequate housing for all, within the framework of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda โ particularly Sustainable Development Goal 11 to \"make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable\" โ and the New Urban Agenda. This position is based in the Regional Office for Africa, under the Horn and East Africa Sub-Regional Programme. It is designed to support the Programme Management Unit (PMU), which was established to strengthen financial oversight and provide core administrative services across the sub-region. The PMU also offers advisory support to Project Managers on cash management, while leading capacity development and knowledge sharing initiatives related to financial procedures, rules, and regulations. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Programme Management Officer responsible for the PMU. Responsibilities โข Provide general project and administrative support across various functions. โข Assist in the preparation of payment requests by collecting and reviewing invoices for accuracy and completeness prior to processing. โข Support the maintenance and regular updating of administrative trackers (e.g., procurement, travel, cash advances). โข Assist in compiling and updating the inventory of non-expendable items. โข Provide logistical support for travel arrangements, including flight bookings, car hire, and related coordination. โข Assist in reviewing and ensuring the quality of reports and documentation submitted by contractors โข Support the organization of meetings, trainings, and conferences, including liaising with vendors, obtaining quotations, booking venues, and reconciling related documentation. โข Maintain well-organized records and files related to ongoing projects. โข Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Project Management, International relations and or related field.
