Work LocationNew York Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: On 8 September 2022, the General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 76/306 to establish a UN Youth Office as a dedicated entity for youth affairs within the Secretariat. The UN Youth Office leads the UN's efforts on youth development, focusing on raising international awareness of and bringing attention to promoting youth rights and stronger youth participation in formulating, implementing and evaluating the various development, peace and security, human rights and humanitarian frameworks. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern is expected to work five days per week, full time from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. within the United Nations Youth Office, located at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, carrying out his/her tasks under the supervision of a staff member - the supervisor. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the department to which he/she is assigned and the period during which he/she will undertake the internship. The intern is expected to perform various activities, and will work in areas of coordination and administration, including: โข Support the organization of special events, conferences, workshops, and High-Level events. โข Support procedures related to travel for meeting participants and the organization of travel expense reports linked to official missions. โข Assist in the creation, updating, and organization of control spreadsheets related to travel. โข Assist with the preparation and dissemination of emails and other internal communications related to travel and operational processes. โข Assist in analyzing vendorโs forms to request that their bank information be uploaded to the system. โข Carry out research on selected aspects of programmes, operations and other activities, and contribute to data collection, analysis, and dissemination and supports knowledge sharing and management. โข Perform other duties as required. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study that is related to the type of internship is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS PowerPoint, is required. Experience on youth engagement or youth related processes is an asset. Experience in coordination and administration-related processes is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
