Work LocationGeneva Expected duration3 months with possibility of extension up to 6 months maximum. Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Legal Officer, the intern will: - Assist in handling cases before the Management Evaluation Unit and UN Dispute Tribunal (UNDT); - Search for precedents, gather relevant documentation; analyze the jurisprudence of the UNDT and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT); - Perform research on a broad range of legal and policy questions related to human resources and Administrative Law; - Assist in drafting routine correspondence; - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsrequirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in law (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in law (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). In addition, interested candidates must: - be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point); - have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and - have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is desirable.
