Work LocationLima Expected durationSix months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme Office in Peru works to build national capacities to combat organized crime, drug trafficking, corruption, environmental crimes, and to strengthen the criminal justice system while promoting human rights and sustainable development. The internship offers an opportunity to contribute to its multidisciplinary efforts and gain hands-on experience in international cooperation, supporting initiatives with a focus on combatting human trafficking and illicit flows linked to organized crime, as well as to support initiatives that protect vulnerable communities and natural resources. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. For more information on UNODC Peru, please visit the following website: https://www.unodc.org/colombia/es/index.html The intern will be responsible for the following: Support the implementation of the national work plan in anti-human trafficking and countering illicit flows linked to organized crime including the tasks supporting coordination of trainings, consultations, and missions with law enforcement, prosecutors, civil society, and other actors involved in anti-trafficking efforts. Assist in coordinating activities and providing input to strengthen Peruโ€™s response to human trafficking. Contribute to data collection and analysis, and assist in researching modus operandi of trafficking networks, development of technical and training materials, the drafting of concept notes, background documents, and presentations for workshops and field activities. Help to maintain regular contact with national counterparts, UN agencies, and stakeholders to ensure timely execution and reporting of project activities. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: โ€ข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); โ€ข Be computer literate in standard software applications; โ€ข Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and โ€ข Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish are required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
