Work LocationIn-Person Expected duration3-6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis internship is located in the Support Unit of the Committee established pursuant to UN Security Council resolution 1540 (2004) (โ1540 Committeeโ) and its Group of Experts, in the Office for Disarmament Affairs, New York. The Support Unit provides substantive, technical, administrative and logistical support to the 1540 Committee and its Group of Experts. The Committeeโs mandate includes supporting and monitoring national implementation of Resolution 1540 (2004), facilitating assistance, cooperating with international, regional, and sub-regional organizations, and promoting transparency and outreach, as reflected in various provisions of Resolution 1540 (2004) and its follow-up resolutions. The internship is unpaid and full-time. The minimum duration of an internship is three months and can be extended up to a total period of six months. Interns work five days per week (35 hours), with supervision of a staff member. Duties may include: โข Gather and search data from various sources, and generate statistical and analytic reports; โข Assist in making data analysis to serve in reports, analytical papers, and factsheets; โข Create data visualizations and dashboards for internal or external use; Monitor and analyze development of advanced technology in assigned areas of responsibility โข Identify and analyze trends or patterns under assigned areas of responsibilities, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques; โข Explore emerging AI tools to enhance information extraction from unstructured data. โข Assist with data aggregation and the development of interactive surveys and communication products. Qualifications/special skillsFor this internship, strong analytical skills, an ability to work with data, and an interest in applying technology to international peace and security issues are highly desirable. The ability to identify and analyze issues related to WMD nonproliferation by non-State actors is preferred. A general knowledge of emerging digital tools and technological trends is also beneficial.
