Work LocationBangkok, Thailand Expected duration2-6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Procurement Unit, under the Division of Administration of ESCAP, provides services to support the programmes and the operations of the ESCAP Secretariat. Additionally, the Procurement Unit conducts all purchasing actions for and on behalf of a number of UN Secretariat Offices in the Asia-Pacific Region. The intern will work directly with Chief of Procurement Unit. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Get acquainted to the Procurement Unit's activities, following instruction and guidance described in manuals and regulations; • Analysis and application of a business methodology to identify and improve the processes developed by the Unit; • Exposition to different cultures and backgrounds, with many conferences, meetings and discussions; • Assist with the preparation of documents and implementation of the document/file management system; • Performing other ad-hoc duties and other related initiatives and activities, as assigned by the supervisor; • Participating in team meeting; • Preparing presentation, reports and statistics; • Routine follow up action on procurement on behalf of the supervisor and inform supervisor of status; • Oral/written responses to queries from internal and external clients regarding procurement matters; • Conducting market research to identify potential local and international vendors for commodities required by buyers and submit reports to buyers; • Assisting vendors in registration on UNGM website and submit status reports to buyers; • Supporting communications with contractors such as on bank details; • Participation in the trainings for the operations and projects staff on procurement; • Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice. • Coordinating with different stakeholders; • Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents; • Providing administrative support to ongoing projects. Please note that: • The internship is UNPAID and full-time. • Internship duration: 2-6 months • Working hours: 5 days per week (Monday to Friday), 8 hours per day Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation. • Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
