ACAPS donor portfolio is also expanding, with current active funding from key institutional donors such as FCDO, SDC, GFFO, GAC, SDC, NMFA and others.

ACAPS Rapid Analysis Team

The ACAPs Rapid Analysis Team is dedicated to produce timely briefing notes upon request on any emergency, and to run in parallel a deeper analysis on selected thematic topics. The position contributes to ACAPSโ€™ timely analysis of humanitarian crises, enabling crisis responders to make better informed decisions.

Purpose of the positionย 

Contribute to ACAPSโ€™ timely analysis of humanitarian crises, thus enabling crisis responders to make better informed decisions. This is an entry level position for people interested in a career in the humanitarian sector and who are specifically interested in qualitative and quantitative analysis, humanitarian planning, and in promoting evidence-based decision making. The information analyst will develop valuable knowledge in analysis techniques, including secondary data review, joint analysis, and data management.

Roles and Responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

Research and Analysis:ย Conduct monitoring of information on global political, economic, social, and humanitarian developments of humanitarian crises and design and write analytical reports about them.ย  Methodology and quality assurance:ย Support the development of ACAPS knowledge and guidance on better data collection, data preparedness activities, analysis, and reporting.ย  Collaboration and Networking:ย Build network of key informants to help to improve the quality of analysis, represent ACAPS and provide visibility to ACAPSโ€™ work.ย 

Specific responsibilitiesย 

Research and Analysisย 

Deliver analysis and Briefing Notes on rapid onset crises upon request, in a limited time ranging from 12 to 24 hours depending on alert. Coordinate, plan and lead the production of those Briefing Notes with other staff involved and our external partner, the START network. Under the supervision of theย Rapid Response Project Manager, conduct longer-term research and produce and lead on thematic reports and analysis (qualitative and/or quantitative). Conduct analysis of sudden onset emergencies as needed on short notice and within short time frames.

Methodology and quality assurance

Contribute to the improvement of ACAPS analysis methodologies. Participate in internal evaluation to improve the quality of analysis activity.ย  Contribute to the joint reflexion of the team regarding the evolution of ACAPS analysis products (product design and development). Support the review process of methodology documents and analysis products and provide support to ACAPS methodology development notably in doing research for developing technical briefs.ย 

Networking

Establish a network of key informants at regional and local level and conduct regular interviews to integrate and support analysis and research. Lead joint analysis with key stakeholders by organising Analytical Coffee Meetingsย  Participate and represent ACAPS in key fora. Prepare and deliver ad hoc presentation on ACAPS, specific crises or products to key stakeholdersย  Support theย Rapid Response Project Managerย and Senior Analyst in discussing, developing, and maintaining any new collaboration assigned to the RAT.ย 

Critical Interfaces

Closely coordinate and collaborate with entire ACAPS analysis teamย  Establish a network of key informants at a field level and conduct regular interviews to integrate and support analysis and research.

Knowledge and Experience

Required skills, knowledge and experience

Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and mixed analysis methods and ease with handling large amounts of quantitative and qualitative data.ย  Written clarity, including ability to analyse complex concepts and synthetize information.ย  Previous experience (3 years) in research, analysis, information management, advocacy, or other relevant experience in the humanitarian sector or related fields (development, international relations, social science, etc).ย  Ability and confidence to make judgment calls when interpreting ambiguous data. Demonstrated understanding of the principles of emergency preparedness, response, and early recovery.ย  Demonstrated understanding of needs assessments in humanitarian crisis.ย  Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining professional networks. Fluent written and oral communication skills in English. Any other language is an asset, especially Spanish, French or Arabic.

Generic professional competencies

Relevant Masterโ€™s degree, preferably in humanitarian action, social sciences (anthropology, sociology, economics, political science, psychology, geography, etc.), area studies, international relations, public health, epidemiology or other relevant education.ย  Ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail.ย  Ability to work autonomously and proactively. Proven cooperation and inter-personal skills, including proven capacity to work very efficiently in a team.ย  Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, and results-oriented approach.ย  Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage own use of time, and self-motivate.ย  Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.ย  Familiarity with R, Python, Tableau, PowerBI, or similar software, is an asset. Flexible, including willingness to work overtime.
