To deliver on this ambition, IDB Invest reorganized its structure and created the Regions Department, which manages business and client relationships from a country perspective. The regions include:
- Southern Cone (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay)
- Andean Group (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela)
- Caribbean (The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago)
- Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic
Additionally, the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department manages business and client engagement from an industry perspective. It is composed of six divisions: three focused on core industries (Infrastructure and Energy (IEN), Financial Institutions (FLI), and Corporates (SMC)); two focused on cross-cutting themes (Climate and Environment (CLE) and Gender and Social Inclusion (GSI)); and one dedicated to Portfolio Management (PTM). Together, these divisions support the implementation of IDB Investโs mandate by providing sectoral expertise, thematic leadership, and strategic portfolio oversight across the institution.
About this position
We are looking for a dynamic professional to support the Portfolio Management Division in monitoring, from signature to repayment, a portfolio of loans, bonds and guarantees to private sector and non-sovereign guaranteed financial institutions (banks, microfinance and specialized financial institutions) in Latin America and the Caribbean. As Portfolio Management Sr. Associate/Associate, you will work with the clients in portfolio, conducting regular and ad-hoc analysis of counterpartsโ performance, identifying breaches, and proposing solutions to resolve contractual events, thereby contributing to the stability and financial health of IDB Investโs portfolio.
You will work in the Portfolio Management Division, part of the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department. This team is responsible for managing and supervising IDB Investโs portfolio in the region.
What youโll do
Under the supervison of the Portfolio Director of Financial Sector projects, the positionโs main responsibilities involve:
- Manage ongoing relationship with clients, agents, B-lenders, co-lenders and other parties involved in assigned portfolio transactions to ensure proper supervision.
- Monitor periodic information, including trends in the global financial markets, country-specific economic situation and events, and industry/market/regulatory developments, to evaluate their impact on IDB Investโs counterparts and portfolio.
- Conduct regular and ad-hoc analysis of financial statements and performance and prepare high-quality periodic supervision reports and risk rating proposals.
- Assess credit, integrity, environmental & social risk, and track and contribute to the development effectiveness standing of transactions under supervision.
- Ensure compliance with IDB Investโs internal policies and guidelines by liaising closely with internal teams.
- Take proactive measures to protect IDB Investโs interests and manage compliance with contracts and covenants. Timely respond to clientโs requests for portfolio actions, including evaluating, negotiating, and processing required disbursements, waivers, amendments, and consents.
- Prepare and disseminate market intelligence and lessons learned from supervised projects to internal audiences. Collaborate with project teams by providing recommendations to the structure and legal documentation of new transactions.
- Propose and lead actions to improve and streamline internal processes.
- Participate and contribute to corporate initiatives.
What you'll need
โข Education: Bachelorโs degree or equivalent (Associate position) or Masterโs degree or equivalent (Sr. Associate position) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
โข Experience: At least two (2) years (Associate position) and three (3) years (Sr. Associate position) of progressive experience in supervision, structuring, credit assessment and/or rating of corporate and/or project finance counterparts, gained within a development financial institution, commercial or investment bank, financial advisory firms and/or rating agencies.
โข Languages: Advanced Proficiency in English and Spanish (Portuguese if located in Brazil), spoken and written, is required.

โข Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Brazil, Chile or Uruguay or with residency or legal permit to work in any of these countries.
โข Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
